• Speak one at a time • Listen to one another; limit speaking time to allow others to

share; respectfully disagree, when needed • Refrain from speaking about a particular teacher or other

children • Refrain from speaking about issues that affect only to your

child (those that should be addressed individually) • Establish a community of trust and respect by maintaining

confidentiality with information shared in this meeting

Literacy strategies to support your child this summer:

• Listen to your child read. Listen for fluency – speed, accuracy, prosody, expression – Goal: 97% accuracy

• Be sure he/she is reading books at right level (“Just-Right”)

• Balance fiction and non-fiction texts

• Play word games to support vocabulary development

• Writing in a variety of modes – summer journals

• Allow the freedom to write about their interests

SUMMER LEARNING SUPPORT

Numeracy strategies to support your child this summer:

•Review math facts at home, in the car, waiting in line, etc.

•Encourage your child to figure out answers to math problems given verbally

•Keep a math problem solving journal for daily math practice

•Encourage your child to tutor a younger sibling or friend

•Play math games, i.e., dominoes

•Look for math in everyday situations, i.e., comparing prices in the sales paper or grocery store, weighing produce, measure ingredients for recipes, etc.
