A paragraph is a number of sentences grouped together and relating one topic.

A GOOD PARAGRAPH HAS

Topic sentence Unity of thought Sequencing of sentences Coherence.

TOPIC SENTENCE

First sentence of a paragraph Tells us what the topic is discussed Deals with inductively, deductively or in

combination

Deals with one topic or idea

EXPANSION OF PROVERB

Proverbs are short sentences that express well known truth.

Read the proverb several times. Think about the idea. Write up by stating the idea. Expand the idea. Give one or two examples to prove. Write proper conclusion. Read again to correct errors.

DEVELOPING THE STORIES FROM OUT LINE

Bare framework of the story. Read outline, note all the points. Make the story in past tense Connect naturally the various points

How to condense: omit unnecessary details. Replace examples by general

statements. substitute one word for long phrase. rewrite simple sentence using short

linker.

Nothing but understanding. Recognize words and structures interperte the

demonstrative and connotative meaning. Understand linking words and expressions.
