The paper 2 is based on two or three works of the
part 3 of the syllabus: Things Fall Apart, Nineteen
Eighty-Four, and A Passage to India for SL. For HL,
Heart of Darkness is the fourth work.
By definition, paper 2 of the IB exam is an essay
divided into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a
sound, critical conclusion.

The Literary Essay is an insightful, critical
interpretation of a literary work.
It is not a summary of plot, character or otherelements of fiction in any given literary work.

In order to prove your thesis, you must develop and
expand on the topic using examples and citations
(quotes) from the literary work to substantiate your
statements
Once a quote is cited, you must provide aninterpretation, not a summary, about how this

The first sentence of the conclusion is arestatement of your THESIS.
Do not introduce any new information in theconclusion.
Restate your most important points as a meansof bringing your argument to a close.
The conclusion is your last chance to proveyour opinion to the reader!
