Pablo Picasso

• Picasso was baptized Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Clito.

• A series of names honouring various saints and relatives. Added to these were Ruiz and Picasso, for his father and mother, respectively, as per Spanish custom.

Early Life

• Born in the city of Málaga.

• Picasso’s family was middle-class; his father was a painter whose specialized in naturalistic depictions of birds and other game. For most of his life Ruiz was a professor of art at the School of Crafts and a curator of a local museum.

• I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.

• I paint objects as I think them, not as I see them.

• Made his first trip to Paris in 1900. For the next five years he divided his time between Paris and Barcelona.

• Picasso was married twice and had four children by three women. He also had many mistresses.

Cubism• In 1907 he painted one of his most famous

painting. Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. This was the start of the Cubism art movement.
