• Do they have a doctor like yours?

• What will they be when they grow up?

• Do their parents have as much money as yours?

Why is this important?

Let’s look again at the picture - What do you see that’s the same as in your life?

~ Do you go to school?

~ Do you wear clothes?

~ Do you want to go to the doctor if you’re ill?

~Aren’t we all human?Oxfam thinks that is enough reason to do something about poverty and inequality!

Goals

In the year 2000, world leaders

made some big promises.

Reduce Poverty by …….2015Target: halve people who live on less than $1 a

dayGood progress in Asia, less progress in Latin America

and Africa

Target: halve people in extreme hunger % children underweight down by fifth. Progress best

in Asia, least in Africa

Clean-up the Environment by 2015Target: halve people without safe water and sanitation Good progress on water, but 5,000 children still die every day from dirty water

Poor progress on sanitation. Number of people in Africa without sanitation is going up

The bad news is that… we are half-way to 2015 and our world is not

half-way towards reaching all the targets

The good news is that… if rich countries:

give more aid, make trade fair and cancel poor countries’ debts, it might still be possible to achieve the

Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

keep the pressure on world leaders to keep their promises

support Oxfamuse less, recycle morebuy Fairtrade
