Completing the application allows candidates to be eligible for a Open Competitive or Promotional exam when implemented
Who is eligible?
• Open Competitive Exams– Exam is open to employees and the general public that have
no prior permanency in a related Civil Service title
• Promotional Exams– Individuals that have prior permanency in a related Civil
Service title and meet the requirements

Application Review or Written Aptitude Exam
• The Civil Service Commission (CSC) will determine
when the exam is to be implemented
• Exam format
– Application Review
– Written Aptitude Exam for Position
• Those that apply will be notified of exam date and
format by Civil Service Commission (CSC)
Exam Format & Test
Date
• Once application reviews are completed and/or exams are administered (if applicable), Eligibility Lists are created by CSC and candidates are notified of their status.
• Eligibility Lists (or Certification Lists) are provided to district by CSC and reflect candidates that have successfully passed the exams and are in ranking order by Veteran status, residency and exam scores.

Ensure that CSC has your correct mailing address

1. Once exam is taken (application review or written
aptitude exam) -(date unknown)
CSC will provide the district with list of those that have been
certified in ranking order.
Ranking implementation in the district will take place 30 days
after Certifications Lists are issued by CSC

2. When interviewing and prior to making a final candidate recommendation to HRS make sure you complete the following checklist:
1. Inform candidate of upcoming CSC exam application
2. Inform candidate of fee associated with CSC exam application (varied)
3. Inform candidate of possible repercussion(s) due to exam announcements for the title If they do not apply for the exam by the due date, they are not eligible to take the
exam which could potentially lead to permanency in that title/position
If they do not rank sufficiently high in the exam (application review / written exam), they may not be eligible for permanency in that title/position
