• By the end of the lesson the students will be able to:

• Explain the term natural resources• List the various types of resources

that are found in The Bahamas and ways people benefit from them

•Explain why it is important to protect our natural resources.

•Plan a survey of their school campus to identify the resources that are found in their environment

• Natural resources: Things that are of value that are provided by nature

• Wild life: wild animals and birds: wild animals, birds, and other living things, sometimes including vegetation, living in a natural undomesticated (untamed or wild) stateMinerals: mined substance: a naturally occurring substance that is mined or removed from the ground

• The natural resources of a country are all those things provided by nature. The main natural resources of The Bahamas are:

• The sea which surrounds our islands, and the marine life it contains

• The beaches

• The soil• The rocks and minerals• The sun• The wind and rains• The plants, trees and wildlife of

our islands

•Protecting our resources•We must protect our natural

resources so that future generations of Bahamians will benefit from them. We must make sure that they are not used up, destroyed or polluted.

How are the resources in the picture being

destroyed?

1.Think about each of these resources in turn. • Get into a group and

make a list of the ways the people of The Bahamas benefit from each resource.

• Compare your lists with those of other groups.

•The Bahamas does not have many of the natural resources that other countries have. Think about other countries which you have read about or seen on television.

•What are some of the resources that The Bahamas lacks?

• Something To Do• Plan a special survey of the area in

which you live to find out about the resources.

• Make a list of all the natural resources you can see.

• List the resources of the land or sea which are being damaged or destroyed by human activities.
