Here at Montecchio Maggiore facility we’ve held some very successful events, but there is plenty of room for more support in the future!

Xylem established its Watermark programme in August 2008 with the mission to:• provide and protect safe water resources

for communities in need around the world • educate people about water issues.

To date more there have been more than 3 million Watermark beneficiaries in 25 countries. More than $2.9m has been

raised by staff and match funding from Xylem – and there have been thousands of projects and volunteer activities that have impacted communities on the ground. Watermark Champions and the contribution of staff, friends and family have been crucial to the success of the programme, and our focus is very much on how this can continue in 2017.

AWS Montecchio Watermark Champions (February 2017)

An opportunity for you based in Montecchio Maggiore, Vicenza.Getting involved in Watermark is EVERYONE’S opportunity. Every member of staff in any role and at any level – and even part-time staff – can make a massive difference to the programme and its beneficiaries. No one who has enthusiasm and ideas is excluded. We’d like anyone within the Montecchio Maggiore site to come and share the community spirit.

Volunteering.Our Watermark volunteers are called ‘Champions’ – for good reason, because you’ll champion all that is best about the Watermark initiative. The role requires your enthusiasm to make a difference, and you can help plan and run activities. More than this you will get additional training in clean water issues and how to foster the spirit of Watermark. This is a valuable life skill. You won’t be on your own, either. We’ll organize regular meetings for Champions to

get together and share ideas in a social way. You can commit as much or as little as you wish because every day matters.

Financial support.Xylem will very often match fund money raised from Watermark initiatives, but we also support Champions in other ways. This can include funding of promotional items (such as T shirts, leaflets and posters) as well as time off from work. Just 3 hours of volunteer time will credit your Champion account with $10 that you can donate to a partner organization. There are also rewards and other forms of recognition, as well as an annual event for ‘outstanding volunteers’.

Enriching the community.Of course while you can help Watermark, it is also an opportunity for your family and friends to participate. There is a great sense of personal satisfaction and wellbeing to be generated from volunteer work and fundraising, and it is a great fun and a valuable learning experience for everyone.

A history of success.

Here at Montecchio Maggiore we’ve held some very successful events, but there is plenty of room for more support in the future!

Staff, friends and family get involved and raise funds, and Xylem has traditionally doubled the funds raised.

Similarly, Xylem recently provided a $1000 ‘month of service’ grant to help us clean a local historic well, supporting the Vicenza section of the Associazione Nazionale Alpini.

Locally there is the possibility to develop many more events, provide support, and engage with charities and schools – through the Xylem Learning Center, for example.

You can sign in to the website using your Xylem email address (click ‘single sign on’) – and look for the Watermark Champion button. If you don’t have an email address, then contact our Montecchio Watermark Champions for support.

There is no cost or commitment to sign up as a Champion. You’ll get access to information to help you with activities and can always call on Champions for help.

Why is this so important to the local community?

Vicenza has around 116,000 residents and like any growing population this provides great demands on natural resources. The province has identified areas that need to be protected and enhanced, which include:

protecting the ecological status of rivers

rebalancing underground water

reducing pollution of our water courses

more sustainable use of water resources

promoting and sharing a water conservation culture.

There are many opportunities for Xylem Watermark to support our local communities, whether it is through educating people about the part they play in the water cycle, social support such as advising or installing equipment to help accommodation or facilities used by charity or welfare organisations, or practical help such as clearing waterways, ponds and lakes.
