Our Lady of La Salette Parish
January 3, 2016 Berkley, Michigan
Our Mission Statement
We, the Roman Catholic Family of Our Lady of La Salette, have the living and welcoming presence of Jesus Christ as the center of our life, especially in the Eucharist. Through worship, the proclamation of the Gospel, service, and the work of the New Evangelization, we continue the reconciling ministry of Jesus Christ.
"The Bible Timeline — The Story of Salvation" Increase your understanding of the Scriptures and enjoy Jeff Cavens’ unique perspectives by watching these video presentations with us. We will also have shared discussion and fellowship. There will be minimal home reading.
We begin this Tuesday, January 5th at 7 p.m. and will continue most Tuesdays through August 2016. There are 24 sessions in all.
Register through the link on the parish website, www.lasalette-church.org or call the parish offices. For more information, please contact Pat Grundy (248) 376-1337 or Sharon Mendoza (248) 541-0342.
Sunday, January 10th through Tuesday, January 12th at 7:00 p.m.
Epiphany Today we celebrate the feast of the Epiphany, where the Magi find the newborn king and offer him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
In the spirit of the Magi, please put your gift in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box so that comfort and peace can once again be given to a newborn child.
May the peace and joy of the New Year be yours!
Calling All the Children! We are blessed in our parish to have trained volunteers willing to give their time and talent to share the Good News of Jesus through the Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Mass.
The Liturgy of the Word for Children is a wonderful opportunity for your child to hear the Good News of Jesus and share the Gospel message at their level of understanding.
As the children are called forth to participate in the their Liturgy of the Word, we encourage you, their parents, to encourage your child to not be afraid or shy away from taking part in this special gathering. Though apart from the adult assembly, they are still fully participating in the Mass as they encounter Jesus through the Gospel message as shared with them in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word.
“Let the children come to Me!” —Jesus

Chalking the Door on Epiphany
On the Epiphany of Our Lord, family and friends gather at the main entrances of homes or apartments and ask God's blessing on their dwellings and on all who live or visit there. (L = Leader C = Community)
L: Peace be to this house and to all who enter here.
L: A reading from Proverbs: "By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures."
L: Let us pray: Gracious God, as a shining star once guided the magi to the birthplace of the infant Jesus, so enable those who dwell here to be your light in the world; through Jesus Christ we pray.
C: Amen.
Using chalk (hence, "Chalking the Door"), inscribe the lintel of the home (the horizontal frame above the door) with the inscription:
20 + C + M + B + 16
The letters C M B come from the traditional 9th century names for the "three kings" -- Caspar, Melchior & Balthazar. Some also suggest "Christus Mansionem Benedicat" which means, "May Christ bless this dwelling!"
Each person is given a turn to make one or more of the marks:
L: A reading from Isaiah: "The effect of righteousness is peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever. My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and quiet places."
People may join hands or extend their hands outward and upward (orans) for the prayers.
L: Let us pray: Sovereign God, we pray that you will bless this home and all who live here with your gracious presence, that your love may be our inspiration, your wisdom our guide, your truth our light, and your peace our blessing, through Jesus Christ we pray.
C: Amen.
L: Lord, remember your children and teach us to pray:
C: Our Father...
People may make the sign of the cross in remembrance of their baptism.
L: May the Lord watch + over our going out and our coming in, from this time forth and forevermore.
C: Amen.
