JUDGES’ BIOGRAPHIES 2018MICHAEL CAMAC
I have been involved in the Dog World since 1968 as a successful breeder, exhibitor and exporter of Australian Silky Terriers under the “DULCANNINA” prefix, and as an exhibitor of all three varieties of Poodles, Pharaoh hound and Lhasa Apso’s. From the age of ten I handled my family’s dogs in the show ring and later became a partner in the kennel.
Highlights of my involvements with Silky Terriers include:• Making up approximately 100 Champions• *Dulcannina bred and owned the first Silky Terrier to
win Best Exhibit in Show at a Royal Show within Australia (Melbourne Royal 1972).
• Best Exhibit in Group at 10 Royal Shows throughout Australia including Darwin Royal 1992, Melbourne Royal 1992.
• Best in Group and Runner Up Best Exhibit in Show at Darwin Royal 1993 and again in 1994 Reserve Best in Group Sydney Royal 1994 & 1996.
In addition to my involvement with Silky Terriers I co- owned and handled the white Standard Poodle Australian Champion Leander White Blazer (Imp. South Africa) to Best Exhibit in Show at Sydney Royal Easter Show 1988.
Since 1997 I have been involved with Lhasa Apsos with great success as a partner in the “AMESEN” prefix including winning multiple Best in Group and Group placements at Royal shows within Australia, Multiple Best in Shows (All Breeds) and Multiple Speciality Best in Shows.
“Amesen “has bred approximately 100 Champions including the first Australian Bred Lhasa Apso to gain an English title - BISS Eng & BISS Aust Ch. Amesen Come Fly With Me To Balito
My previous dog, BISS,BIS, Australian Supreme Champion Chethang Nathaniel (Imp UK) was Number 1 Dog All Breeds in South Australia for the past three consecutive years and Australia’s Number 1 Lhasa Apso,2013, 2014 and 2015 and has won 100 Best in Shows in Australia.
One of my current dogs Australian Supreme Champion Amesen All about Me was Number 1 Dog All Breeds in South Australia for the past two years and Australia’s Number 1 Lhasa Apso,2016 and 2017 and has won 53 Best in Shows in Australia in less than two years of showing and was the Grand final winner of Top Dog Australia point score 2017. I have now sent him to Europe and in very limited showing he has already won five BESTS IN SHOWS and one Supreme BEST IN SHOW.I was first approved to judge the Toy Breeds in 1978 and achieved ALL BREEDS status in 1989.
I have officiated at shows in all States of Australia, Sweden, Norway, Finland both Islands of New Zealand, India, Canada, Thailand, China and Japan.
I have been invited twice to lecture on Silky Terriers to the Terrier Judges at the Terrier Derby Conferences in Sweden.
I judged the Pedigree Chum Junior Showmanship Final at Crufts in 1994. I also judged at the World Dog show 2008 held in Sweden.
I served as an elected council member of the South Australian Canine Association for four years.
Currently I am the Group Seven (Non Sporting Group) Co-ordinator, Examiner, Assessor and Breed Lecturer with the Judges Training Scheme in South Australia
WILLIAM deVILLENEUVE
I began as a breeder-owner-handler in the early 1970’s with my Scottish Terriers. I have whelped 20+ litters and shown 20+ Scotties to their AKC championship titles. I was the top Scottie owner-handler in the US with two different dogs in the 80’s and 90’s. In 2006 I owned the #1 Scottie bitch (#2 overall), a multi group, multi BIS, and multi BISS winner; CH. Wychwood Wyndola of Duff-De who was shown by Bergit Kabel. I have also bred and owned several other multi group and multi BISS winners as well as the top producing Scottie brood bitch 20 years.
Although my judging schedule has forced me to cut back on breeding and limited my available time for showing, i am staying somewhat active and have produced two litters in the past 6 years. Two boys in the first litter completed their AKC championships with their new owner-handlers and two girls from the more recent litter 4 years ago have also finished their championships. I kept one of the girls and returned to the show ring as an exhibitor for the firs time in 7 years and finished “Hannah” myself. It was exciting and challenging to show once again and be in the ring on the other side of the lead. I also hope to breed this girl next spring and have fun with some puppies again.
With regard to judging, I was first approved for Scottish Terriers in 1983 and completed approval for the Terrier Group in 1991. Since then, I have been approved to judge the Toy Group and then completed the Working Group in 2010. More recently, I have been approved to judge several Hounds, including Beagles, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Pharaoh Hounds, Scottish Deerhounds, PBGV’s, Whippets, Norwegian Elkhounds, and Bulldog’s, Bichons, and Lowchen in the Non-Sporting Group. Currently, I am working to complete those groups. My judging travels have taken me to Scotland, Sweden, Mexico, Dominican Republic, almost every province in Canada, as well as most of the states across the US.
I truly enjoy seeing and judging the dogs and have fun doing it. I also try to make it an enjoyable experience for the exhibitors, their dogs, and the spectators too.

She has also judged in Russia, Italy, Sweden, Finland, France, New Zealand, Taiwan, China and South Africa. Ann has been an executive committee member of the Bichon Frise Club of America, Atlanta Kennel Club, Greater Atlanta Fox Terrier Club, Sawnee Mountain Kennel Club, Lawrenceville Kennel Club and Kennesaw Kennel Club. She has been editor of the American Fox Terrier Club Newsletter, Atlanta Kennel Club Digest, Bichon Frise Club of America Bulletin, and various other publications. She has been published in many dog magazines and has written books about Bichons, Wire Fox Terriers, Smooth Fox Terriers, Chihuahuas, and Judging published by TFH Publications, Inc. and Kennel Club Books. She was nominated in 1997 for Writer of the Year for a Breed Specific Book by The Dog Writers Association. Ann feels it is important that she give back as much as she has received from the dog sport, and has developed and presented many educational forums for judges to help them better understand breeds and thereby become better judges.
Mrs. Hearn thoroughly enjoys judging as she says she can legitimately get her hands on as many dogs as she likes - and she likes them all!
With regards to Old English Sheepdogs I have judged the Breed Speciality Shows in Ireland, Finland, Germany and Denmark. I have also judged the Breed in many countries.
In respect of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels I first judged the Breed in Ireland in 1983 and also over the years in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, and Holland, Argentina, Japan, Australia, Columbia, France, Estonia, Lithuania, Canada, Italy and Spain. My most exciting appointment was in France in 2012 when I was one of six judges for the Cavalier Speciality with an entry of over 600 Cavaliers. I have also judged Breeds Specialities in Sweden and in June of 2015 I judged the Speciality in Los Angeles. In September 2015 I judged CC’s under English Kennel club rules at Belfast Championship Show. In June 2017 I judged the Cavalier of the Northeast of America Speciality. In 2018 will judge the Breed at the World Show in Amsterdam.
In respect of Japanese Spitz I judged the Breed Speciality in May 2012 in Sweden, in 2013. The Breed Speciality in Finland and The Norwegian Japanese Spitz Speciality in 2014. In August of this year I judged the Speciality in Sydney Australia. In respect of Bernese Mountain Dogs I have judged Breeds Specialities in Ireland, Argentina, New Zealand and Canada. In 2018 I am one of the 3 judges who will judge The Bernese National in America. This is a very big honour for a European judge as was voted by the members and I will be the First Irish Judge to have this honour.
I have been involved in Show Dogs since 1977 when Michael Forte and I bought an Old English Sheepdog from Stella Harte.
We quickly caught the show bug and within 2 years we were showing the Old English sheepdog and Cavaliers. We set up the Kennel Prefix Leonfort and we quickly became known in Cavaliers as we won Best of Breed under Pamela Cross Stern with a ten month old puppy Ch Ronnoc Vicenzo at his first St Patricks Day Show (The Irish Crufts) in 1980. He won again the following year under Russell Roberts. Ch Ronnoc Vicenzo was the top stud dog in the breed for 6 years in a row.
We made up 2 other Champions Ch Leonfort Vicenzo and Ch Vandyck Jester of Leonfort who both had wonderful show careers.
I was a committee member of The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Ireland for approx. 10 years from 1980.
In Old English Sheepdogs we made up one champion and bred 2 litters. I was secretary of the club for 4 years and the IKC Representative.
In Bernese Mountain Dogs we made up champions and bred litters. We had the breed recognized with the IKC in 1979 and set up the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Ireland. I served as Secretary/Treasurer and in 2007 had the honour of been the Judge for their 25th Anniversary show.
In Japanese Spitz I had the Breed recognized in the IKC with Stella Harte and Michael Forte in 1983 and owned the first champion to be made up which was bred by Stella Harte. We set up the Japanese Spitz Club of Ireland and I served as Secretary, Treasurer and IKC Representative.
In Tibetan Spaniels I made up champions and bred litters and served as Chairman for over 10 years. I had the honour of judging the breed at the World Show in Sweden in 2008. One of the only 2 Irish Judges at this show.
PATRICK MUDGE
Patrick Mudge purchased his first purebred dog (a samoyed) in 1969 which sparked an obsession with all things related to the dog show world. As a teenager he spent as much time as possible at shows lurking around the handlers’ setups waiting for an opportunity to take in that second place dog for Reserve!
An early fascination with the Winterfold whippets of Martine Collings led to a lifetime of involvement with that wonderful breed. Since that time Patrick has owned several different breeds and has shown dogs( many owned by others) to group first in six of the 7 groups (all but herding) and to Best in Show.
JEFFREY PEPPER
Jeffrey Pepper is the breeder of more than 65 Golden Retriever and 55 Petits Bassets Griffons Vendéens AKC champions, with Best in Show and National Specialty winners in both breeds.
He has been judging since 1985. He has judged all breed and specialty shows, including a number of National Specialties, in the USA, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, China, Denmark, Holland, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
He is the author of 4 books, the most recent a multiple award winning book on the Golden Retriever, published in 2010 by Kennel Club Books. Mr. Pepper is approved by the American Kennel Club (AKC) to judge all Sporting Breeds, all Hound Breeds, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and Best in Show. He has judged at prestigious USA shows such as Westminster Kennel Club, where he judged the Hound Group in 2018, and the AKC Show as well as a number of National Specialties. He has judged All Breeds in several different countries as well.
Mr. Pepper has given seminars on Golden Retrievers, Petits Bassets Griffons Vendéens and dogs in general to exhibitors, breeders and judges in several countries. He is past President of the Dog Judges Association of America, the PBGV Club of America and the Palm Beach County Dog Fanciers Association. He a founder and long time Treasurer of Take The Lead, a non-profit foundation providing support for people in the US Sport of Dogs who have a life-threatening or terminal illness or have encountered a natural disaster such as fire, flood and hurricanes.
PAUL STANTON
I acquired my first dog in 1964 which was a Shetland Sheepdog called Tint. In 1966 I went to work for the famous Hardacre kennels then mainly breeding and showing Basset Hounds but Anne Matthews had just starting breeding the then rare Lhasa Apsos and Tibetan Terriers and I became obsessed with the Lhasa’s temperament and in 1969 I acquired my first Lhasa and have had them ever since and my first Tibetan Terrier, UK Ch Dokham Cavarodossi of Tintavon was born in 1970 who went on to be the first Tibetan Terrier in the world to win BIS at an all breeds Championship show (1974). I owned or bred 10 UK Champions and I am the only person to have made up Ch.s in the three Tibetan breeds in the UK before moving to Sweden in 1977. We have owned or bred 10 Lhasa Apsos who have won All Breeds BIS and many other group winners but our most famous dog in Sweden was again a Tibetan Terrier, a double grand daughter of Cavarodossi named Int Nordic Ch BIS BISS Tintavon Desdemona who won Top Dog all breeds in Sweden, Finland and Nordic competitions in 1979.
Brown Miniature Poodles were kept for a short time where we made up two Int, Champions and bred one litter which resulted in two new Champions.
Whippets came into our house about twenty five years ago and we breed the odd litter with some excellent results like Best female at the famous Swedish sight hound show, her grand daughter won BPIS at the same show and whose son was a group winner.
We have added a new breed to our kennel, the Thai Bangkaew Dog (Group 5 Primitive Spitz Breed) and are the first to import this breed to Europe & we plan to import more & our first litter was born on the 11 December 2012.
His most recent involvement ( since 1997) has been with miniature poodles, co-owning Canada’s Puppy of the Year for 1997 (BIS Can.Am/Ch Minstrel der Letzte Tanz, “Swayze”) #1 mini and #4 Non-sporting dog for 1998 and #2 sire in the breed. Patrick has bred Group winning, BPIS and BISS winning mini poodles.
A music educator by profession, teaching piano and voice, he has recently retired, with his partner Walter, to a small (266 acre) farm outside of Fredericton NB.
I awarded C.C.s in England in Lhasas (1974) and Tibetan Terriers (1975) before moving to Sweden where I continued my judging exams to become FCI All Rounder in 1996. I have now judged in well over 50 countries on all continents and some of my judging highlights are Crufts in 1981 (Lhasa Apsos) Tibetan Terrier Silver Jubilee show (UK), South Eastern Tibetan Spaniel Ch show (UK), The Chow Chow Ch Show (UK). Canadian English Springer National specialty. Sydney, Perth and Hobart Royals, New Zealand KC National show (1998 & 2008). Gundog group at Hatboro Ch show (USA), 4 Groups at Cherry Blossom Circuit shows 2010 (USA) plus the many times I have had the honour to judge BIS in countries like France, Japan, Canada, New Zealand and Australia & The Scandinavian countries.
My other hobbies are gardening where my passion is for Fuchsias and Brugmansias (angels’ trumpets). I am also very interested in Opera, ballet and culture in general.
SPECIALTY JUDGE - Canadian Eskimo Dog
CHERYL PATERSON
I have been showing and breeding Alaskan Malamutes under the “Terrapin” Registered prefix since 1990. We have bred over 35+ Canadian, American, European, Australian and Mexican champions. Over the years we have been involved in obedience, backpacking and sledding as well as conformation.
Wanting to have something different to show, I bought our first Saluki in 2006, and we now have three of them which have taken over our household. We enjoy lure coursing with them as well as conformation. I have been licensed by the Canadian Kennel Club to judge since 2006. I have had the honour of judging several breed Regional and National Specialties in Canada as well as in many different countries. I also had the privilege of judging at the European Dog Show in the Czech Republic in 2014.
I have judged in Canada, United States, Australia, England, France, Spain and the Czech Republic.
