is the developer of Corvin Promenade,
a major city regeneration project in the
Hungarian capital Budapest. On a total
of 22 hectares, the promenade comprises
residential buildings with 2,800 new
homes, office buildings with
150,000 m2 of leasable space and
a 34,600 m2 commercial center,
the Corvin Atrium.
Big change for district 8 ‘Corvin Promenade completely changes
the face of Budapest’s 8th district’, says
Tebodin project manager Mrs. Beáta
Teleszky. ‘It is actually the largest city
renewal project in Central Europe. Not
long ago this area had slummy houses
and a rough reputation. This marvelous
project has turned that around and
Tebodin Hungary is very proud to take
part in it. Corvin Atrium is a beautiful
glass-covered center with nearly 100
shops on four levels. On the second floor
there is also a playground and a gym.
The building features four office towers
and an underground car park with
1,200 parking spaces.’
Persistent and accurateFutureal project director Mr. Gábor Tóth
directly led Tebodin’s contributions.
At times his team of professionals
was overwhelmed by the workload
and Tebodin provided complementary
work for the electrical and mechanical
supervisors. ‘This commercial
development presented various technical
needs related to different targets’,
says Mr. Tóth. ‘The Tebodin experts
were persistent and accurate, and while
they were dedicated to the independent
assessment of technical issues, they
were nevertheless committed to the
interests of Futureal. That was
greatly appreciated.’

Clear objectivesPerfetti Van Melle was not satisfied
with the performance of the waste
water treatment facility, hovering
around the 26 percent mark. Part of
this under-performance had to do with
corrosion due to low pH (approximately
3.0 to 3.5) at the primary treatment
units of the system. So the objectives for
Tebodin Vietnam were clear: to improve
the performance and the capacity of
the waste water treatment facility.
‘The entire facility needed quite a
make-over’, adds Mr. Doan Ngoc
Son, project manager for Tebodin:
‘The damaged concrete needed to be
removed and corroded tanks had to be
rebuilt. We also modified the process
flow and designed separators for the
up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket.
Furthermore, piping and instruments
were replaced.’
Impressive resultsIn May 2010, the work was
completed with impressive results.
Tebodin’s environment engineers
and process engineers cooperated
closely for optimal equipment sizing
and optimization. Consequently, the
performance of the system was lifted
up to 100 percent. ‘Most importantly,
the client was satisfied with our work’,
Mr. Doan says. ‘This has opened up

One of these is to conduct a study for and the design of an extended waste
water treatment facility at the same plant. The facility is now able to treat
2,500-3,000 kg COD a day. Perfetti van Melle and local partner Saigon Foods
Company aim to double this capacity to 6,000 kg COD a day. Another tender
Tebodin has been invited to is for the civil and structural design of the plant itself.
‘The government has issued new regulations for factories regarding the treatment
of industrial waste water’, Mr. Doan explains. ‘As a result, many companies need

Ever since 2002, the Tebodin office in Poznan, Poland, has enjoyed close relations with the local University of Technology. Recently a further contract was again signed for Tebodin to execute the project supervision for the Technical Library and Lecture Centre to be built.
The University of Technology has
announced major new investments
to develop urban planning as well as
the Library and Lecture Centre on its
Piotrowo campus. This development
will include constructing a complex of
three major buildings separated by three
passages radiating from the area in front
of their main entrances. The complex
will be complemented by a riverside
boulevard which will accommodate
vehicles as well as bicycles and
pedestrians.
Three new buildingsMr. Szymon Kubicki, coordinator of
the works on behalf of the University
explains, ‘The three buildings will include
the Institute of Computer Science as
well as the Technical Library and Lecture
Center. The official opening is planned
for October 2010, and we feel sure that
we will meet this deadline.’
Cooperation over 8 yearsMr. Tomasz Frycz acts as Tebodin’s
project manager. ‘We signed this
contract because we won the public
tender. Cooperation with the University
of Technology led us to prepare the offer
which fulfilled the client’s expectations.
As supervisors of the project on behalf
of the investor, we provide the specialist
staff for this project.’
Wide-ranging inspection tasksThe Tebodin tasks will be the inspection
and supervision of the work in the fields
of construction, telecommunications,
and roads as well as the electrical and
power installations. In addition, the
heating, ventilation, water supply,
sewerage and gas installations are also
Tebodin’s responsibilities.

ICT innovator SURFnet asked Tebodin to assess its Cradle to Cradle capabilities to establish direction for a move towards green operations.
SURFnet is a non-profit subsidiary of
SURF, a Dutch partnership for ICT-
driven innovation. Students, teachers,
researchers and network supervisors
from over 180 institutions use SURFnet’s
hybrid network every day. The electronic
highway we were promised is really
taking shape now, with ‘Lichtpad’
enabling multiple traffic streams with
gigantic amounts of data, including high-
quality video.
‘We are the driving force behind ICT-
based innovation in higher education
and research in the Netherlands’, says
SURFnet innovation program manager
Mr. Harold Teunissen. ‘We develop and
operate shared IT facilities at speeds not
yet offered by commercial parties. Last
year we successfully demonstrated a
100 Gbit/s optical connection between
Amsterdam and Hamburg. There is also
a 40 Gbit/s optical connection between
SURFnet and CERN in Geneva.’
Like most other industries, the world
of ICT is evolving towards a sustainable
future. ‘Energy use is the first that
springs to mind here, but much more
can be achieved with Cradle to Cradle
principles’, says Tebodin Cradle to Cradle
consultant Mr. Jan Gerrit Grooters. ‘Let’s
go further than sustainable; let’s try to
be beneficial. In a series of workshops,
we are together investigating the
practical potential of Cradle to Cradle
in IT infrastructure. As far as I am
aware, that hasn’t been done before.
By carefully considering subjects such
as water, materials, waste, climate and
biodiversity, we can come to creative
solutions to enlarge the Cradle to Cradle
footprint of SURFnet, keeping it at the
forefront of IT development.’

Instant soups and seasoning are becoming popular in Russian households. In a new EPCM project for Nestlé, Tebodin is realizing a brand new Maggi factory in the town of Vyazniki, some 300 km east of Moscow. The work started this summer and by December 2011, construction is to be complete.
Nestlé of Switzerland, founded in 1866,
is today’s leading nutrition, health and
wellness company. The Nestlé group has
456 factories and industrial enterprises in
84 countries.
The production of Becherovka, a renowned Czech herbal liqueur with over 200 years of history, was relocated from central Karlovy Vary to the city outskirts this summer. Tebodin proved to be the perfect partner in making the move as easy as possible, says Mr. Vladimir Darebnik, Operation Director and Project Manager at Jan Becher-Karlovarska Becherovka (JBKB).
JBKB is part of the Pernod Ricard Group,
the world’s second largest producer of
wines and spirits. Becherovka is a bitter-
sweet liqueur based on over 20 different
herbs and spices. The recipe is a closely
guarded secret. First developed in 1807
by local pharmacist Joseph Becher,
Becherovka has become a favorite in
much of Central and Eastern Europe.
Especially popular at home today is
mixing the drink in cocktails. Best
known is a mix of Becherovka and tonic,
abbreviated to ‘beton’, Czech
for concrete.
Long traditionBecherovka belongs to Karlovy Vary.
The spa town in West Bohemia is
famous for its springs, and Becherovka is
affectionately known as ‘the 13th spring’.
Production has taken place in the same
building at Tomas Garrigue Masaryk
Street from 1867 until now.
Mr. Darebnik: ‘Back then it was just
outside the town, but today it’s in the
city center. This was one reason we
decided to move production to our
bottling plant in Karlovy Vary-Bohatice,
which was built in 2005. The product
had to be moved there by truck.
Production and bottling on the same
location makes sense; it’s safer and less
costly. Another reason is that we expect
volume growth in the years to come.
At the old location the production
volume was limited.’
The economic crisis does not seem to
have an adverse effect on Becherovka,
and new markets are developing. Export
levels to Germany, Poland, Russia,
Ukraine and Hungary, all real ‘herb
countries’ according to Mr. Darebnik,
are stable and slightly on the increase.
‘Strenghtening our position on these
traditional markets is an important
first step. At the same time we see
opportunities in China and the United
States, where there is good interest in
our product. The same is true for
several smaller EU markets and the
Balkan countries.’
‘This project was a real partnership, in which all
requirements were met without difficult extra agreements or any problems, and I can assure you
that is unusual.’
Food and BeverageTebodin was involved in the Becherovka
project after the design phase.
Mr. Darebnik: ‘The design of the
new factory was started by another
designer before I came to Becherovka.
When I started organizing the tender,
I recognized that Tebodin is the right
partner for us. In Russia I worked for
multinational foods company Nutricia
the tender preparations, construction
supervision, site safety and coordination
of contractors.’
Real partnershipJBKB has been making Becherovka in the
new 1,500 m2 location since the start of
July. The aim is to increase production
by 40 percent before 2014. ‘There has
been no problem converting the trial
permit into a permanent one at the
end of September. Tebodin has proven
to be a reliable partner once again, due
to the efforts of specialists such as
Mr. Tomáš Tucauer and Mr. Jirí Kucera.
There was nothing that could not
be solved. This project was a real
partnership, in which all requirements
were met without difficult extra
agreements or any problems, and I can
assure you that is unusual. This flexibility
and the willingness to react immediately
are hard to find. The service has been
excellent and just what we needed.’
for seven years. The biggest engineering
jobs there went to Tebodin. They not
only have broad experience in Food and
Beverage, they also have all technical
specialists directly available. If something
is wrong, you can count on them to
fix it. They took care of all necessary
design changes and were responsible for
Tebodin Poland was awarded a contract by the Regional Roads Authority ZDW in Łódz for the investor’s supervision during the reconstruction and extension of road number 708.
The 708 connects the towns of Ozorków and Brzeziny via Stryków, just north of
the city of Łódz. The works include a bypass of Stryków and should be finished by
the end of November 2012, says Tebodin project manager Mr. Marek Labuda of
the Poznan office. ‘We fulfil the Contract Engineer function and take care of the
investor’s supervision, not only for the road itself, but also for the reconstruction
of bridges, culverts and noise barriers. In fact, the complete infrastructure along
the 708 is being overhauled as part of this contract. It includes the power
distribution networks, the lighting and telecommunications, gas supply and
water mains, the road and land drainage systems and even the railway crossing
northwest of Stryków.’

Maggi, also of Switzerland and
founded in 1872, is a Nestlé
brand of instant soups,
stocks, ketchups, sauces,
seasonings and instant
noodles. With the recent
popularity boost in
Russia, Nestlé wants to
keep satisfying consumers
demands. This new factory will support
future growth and product innovations.
Reliable partnerTebodin Russia has already shown its
capabilities in several previous projects
for Nestlé, including a major extension
of the Nescafé instant coffee factory in
Timashevsk.
Nestlé was impressed with the results:
‘Tebodin is proving to be a competitive
and well organized consultant and this
is the reason why we could entrust a
new project to the same people. They
have proven to be a reliable partner,
able to meet technical and challenging
permitting requirements. They also find
feasible and effective solutions.’
Challenging deadlineMr. Mikhail Senichev of the Tebodin
Moscow office is the project manager
for the new Maggi production and
distribution center in Vyazniki. ‘There is
a challenging deadline and we have to
keep up the speed. Our team is working
on the basic and detail design, the
tender package and the permitting.
We will also provide construction
support and take care of the project
all the way until the commissioning
phase is concluded. In 2012, the plant
will start producing at a capacity of
30,000 tons a year.’

With the joint venture between Tebodin and Libyan company P.C.C. (Petroleum & Chemicals Consultancy), Tebodin enters the African continent. Director Mr. Bassam Tomi in the Tripoli office: ‘we are the first private company of its kind in this country.’
If the skyline and waterfront plans for Libya’s capital Tripoli are anything to go
by, things are only just getting started. Libya is opening up to the world and
welcomes Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), which rose by 40 percent to over
$ 18 billion last year. The oil-rich North African nation has large foreign reserves
and hardly needs capital, but it does want economic diversification, more citizen
participation, knowledge transfer and jobs. With one of the most progressive
FDI laws and a recently reformed tax law, Libya wants to expand its economy
through industrial development and investment beyond the oil and gas sector.
Oil, gas and waterTebodin Design & Engineering Technology, Libya is the full name of the joint
venture, based on a 60/40-share distribution between Tebodin and P.C.C. In
everyday use, the new company will simply be known as Tebodin Libya. Mr.
Tomi, who was educated as a chemical and process engineer in the United
Kingdom, has worked as an engineering consultant for many multinational
companies in the oil & gas industry. ‘To start with, Tebodin Libya will focus on
the local oil and gas market as well as the water sector. We see good business
opportunities because many regular Tebodin clients are developing activities in
Libya.’
P.C.C. is already well known in the Libyan oil & gas sector. ‘In 1988 P.C.C.
introduced inspection services and chemicals and petroleum consultancy. In
2000 the company added environmental services and specialists in the fields of
seismic, drilling, production, and general industrial projects. The branch offices
at Ras Lanuf, Misurata and Zawia cover services in oil fields, refineries and
petrochemical plants. The LERCO refinery at Ras Lanuf is one
North Africa’s largest.’
Modernization and an increase of production and exports are major objectives
in the Libyan oil & gas sector. The country’s production currently stands at
1.8 million barrels of oil a day and 16 billion cubic meters of gas a year. ‘Tebodin
Libya offers the latest expertise to both the national oil companies who are
the major producers, and to the international companies mostly involved in
exploration.’
Industrial developmentMr. Tomi has seen many changes taking place in Libya over the past few years.
‘The country’s infrastructure is being renewed, telecommunications have really
improved and whole company villages are being built to accommodate foreign
workers. Because of our insider position in Libya, we can assist clients with
their investment plans and deal with cultural differences and bureaucracy in a
way that few other parties can. In the longer term therefore, as more investors
discover Libya as the heart of the Mediterranean, we are confident we can play
an important part in the country’s industrial development.’

Knauf Insulation, part of the Knauf Group of Germany, is the world’s fastest-growing insulation manufacturer. In the St. Egidien factory in Saxony, Tebodin supported Knauf on site to bring a difficult expansion project to a successful completion.
Knauf Insulation, one of Tebodin’s
global clients, produces a wide range of
insulation materials to meet the growing
demand for energy efficiency and
acoustic performance in new and existing

Rijk Zwaan Zaadteelt & Zaadhandel BV is a leading Dutch vegetable seed company. Tebodin was made responsible for the latest adaptations to the laboratory facilities, offices and the canteen at the company’s Fijnaart location in the Netherlands.
Rijk Zwaan develops and sells high-
quality vegetable seeds for professional
horticulture. With some 25 different
crops, 850 varieties and sales in over
a hundred countries, the company
belongs to the global top-5 of vegetable
breeding companies. ‘With fundamental
research, Rijk Zwaan continuously works
on the development of new varieties.’
In Fijnaart, the company has highly
specialized laboratories in the areas of
biochemistry, cell biology and
molecular biology.
Tebodin contributed to the development
of the 65-hectare site, chosen for its fine
soil, when Rijk Zwaan moved to Fijnaart
buildings. Knauf Insulation has around
5,000 employees in 30 production sites
and is active in more than 50 countries
all over the world.
Mr. Marc Vrancken and Mr. Detlef
Wolf, project managers with Knauf
Insulation, explained about the project’s
background. ‘The company is rapidly
expanding with new factories while also
upgrading existing facilities to increase
cost efficiency and production levels.
In the St. Egidien plant, we had already
entered the execution phase of a new
assembly line for stone wool when we
in 2000. ‘Tebodin CCE in Deventer
is very experienced in the design of
laboratories’, says Rijk Zwaan project
manager Mr. Leo Woudenberg, who is a
laboratory manager. ‘They also designed
our Seed Technology Centre in De Lier,
where seeds are processed and packed
for export. In Fijnaart, we wanted to
expand all our activities. A project this
size and complexity always brings some
difficulties, but Tebodin specialists such
as Gijs Speekenbrink and Wim Bosma
have made this project into a success.’
Flexible layoutAs Tebodin project manager Mrs.
Daniëlla Taks-Husson explains, the
laboratory was both enlarged and
adapted. ‘In architectural terms, the
expansion had to be in line with the
existing building. To introduce a new
level of flexibility in the positioning
of laboratory equipment, new utility
connections were needed in the floor,
walls and ceiling. Due to the new
open ceiling structure, new equipment
called upon Tebodin for assistance.
They had joined in completing several
other projects for Knauf Insulation
and we needed a reliable and
experienced partner.’
Coordination issuesThe project had to deal with the
usual challenges, said Tebodin project
manager Mr. Udo Schliefkowitz. ‘A very
tight schedule and many simultaneous
activities in an extremely confined space
led to time-consuming coordination
issues at the start of the construction
stage. ‘Tebodin was able to support
construction cost reductions with
experienced construction management
personnel and the use of an effective
cost control system. Step by step
the complex site and construction
management, including HSSE, were
transferred to Tebodin staff. We managed
the site operations and also provided
construction management for Piping, E&I
and Process. We are proud of that and,
as Knauf Insulation is perfectly satisfied
with the results, we think Tebodin will
be involved in future projects.’

5Tebodin World, October 2010
Mr. Zakharchenko Petro Volodymirovuch is a professor at the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA), formerly the Kiev Civil Engineering Institute, in Ukraine. He observes an increase in Public Private Partnerships in which the private sector is involved in the realization and financing of governmental objects.
Growing popularityPublic Private Partnerships (PPP) may vary from simple service contracts to
involvement in financing, design, construction and management of infrastructure
objects. PPP grows in popularity mainly because state budgets come up short
for large projects at a time of growing demand for infrastructure projects for
future economic development. PPP projects allow the state to share major risks
with the more risk-accustomed private sector. Private investors and financial
institutions also find PPP projects attractive, recognizing new business areas.
Euro 2012 in Ukraine Many developed countries intensively use PPP methods, including The
Netherlands where such projects amount to over 2 billion euros. In developing
countries PPP is introduced on a modest scale so far, influenced by political risks
and potential problems with project realization. Such is the current situation
in Ukraine, where the state experiences a serious budget deficit for realization
of large scale infrastructure projects and aims to improve its investment
attractiveness to foreign investors. This is especially important in view of
preparation for the Euro 2012 Football Championship in Ukraine and Poland.
PPP is considered a realistic mechanism to help finance and develop major
infrastructure objects for Euro 2012, such as sports structures, airports and roads.
Supporting PPPUnfortunately, PPP is not widely known in Ukraine. So, at the initiative of
Tebodin and with active support of Tebodin and KNAUF, our university launched
a new PPP study program. We also published a detailed PPP manual for higher
education institutes. This book includes Tebodin’s experience with a similar
approach for the new terminal at International Lviv Airport, where Tebodin is
General Designer and provides consultancy on PPP to the Ministry of Transport.
Our graduate students now get this knowledge first hand and will be more
prepared for new business challenges in our quickly developing world.
We sincerely believe that new business methods like PPP are a good example of
mutually beneficial cooperation between private business and the public sector in
Ukraine. We really appreciate Tebodin’s support in such an important educational
initiative.
With profits on the rise, companies in the chemical industry will be flocking to the Chemical Park Tagil in the Ural region in Russia. Tebodin and UCP
Chemicals are joining forces to secure a
smooth landing of new
investors.
Most promising industryAs in most industries, margins are still
tight, but profits are on the rise in the
Russian chemical industry. Chemical
production recovered in the first half of
2010 to record a 19.5 percent increase
over the same period last year, according
to the Russian Ministry of Economy. The
chemical industry is currently rated as
one of the most promising industries in
the country, attracting more and more
investors every year.
However, setting up business may be
significantly hindered by searching for a
suitable site, obtaining permits, analyzing
raw materials and sales markets,
and so on. As a result, infrastructure
expenditures during the project start-up
period may take up a significant share of
investments.
A walk in the parkAt Chemical Park Tagil most of these
problems have been successfully
solved. ChemPark Tagil is an established
specialized chemical facility, producing
plastics, organic chemical materials and
structural materials. The park occupies
an area of over 140 hectares and has a
developed infrastructure. The ChemPark
offers investors industrial sites of a half to
five hectares, equipped with all necessary
supply lines and facilities.
Impressive line-upToday, ChemPark Tagil accommodates
such companies as Uralchimplast,
UralMethanolGroup, UCP-Cavenaghi,
UCP-Amdor, Ural Plant of Plasticity
Agents, and Khimmash-Service.
An impressive line-up of potential
investors have expressed their interest
in the chemical park, including
Infracor (Marl Chemical Park), LanXess,
Sumitomo Bakelite, BASF, Dow Europe,
Huntsman, Krems Chemie, Schenectady
International Group, Univar, and ARCL.
Chemistry in cooperationTo further promote ChemPark Tagil,
Tebodin Ekaterinburg and Uralchimplast,
a subsidiary of the Austrian company
UCP Chemicals, have entered into
a Memorandum of Understanding.
Tebodin will provide project awareness
among its international clients in
the chemical market and will advise
Urachimplast on technical and master
planning issues when required.
The partnership will surely add a spark
to the development of the chemical

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design. This system,
developed in the USA, is actually based
on the British system BREEAM (British
Research Establishment Environmental
Assessment Method). Together, they
have become the global standard for
green buildings.
Measuring tools‘Worldwide, there are now more
than 12,000 new buildings in the world
in the LEED certification process, and
over half a million are registered to be
BREEAM-certified’, says Mr. Willem
Stevense, architect at Tebodin The
Hague. ‘LEED and BREEAM measure
how well a building, a complex and in
the near future even a whole residential
area performs on issues such as the site
itself, energy savings, CO2 emissions,
water efficiency, indoor environmental
quality and stewardship of natural
resources.’
Demand and benefitsIn today’s business environment,
sustainability and social responsibility
are increasingly important. In China for
example, architect Mr. Dave Gou and
HVAC engineer Mr. Steven Liu, both
LEED accredited professionals at the
Tebodin Asia Pacific office in Shanghai,
see a sharp increase in the demand for
their services.
Mr. Gou: ‘Participation in the
voluntary certification process shows
environmental leadership and innovative
drive. Moreover, there are important
long-term benefits in reaching for a
benchmark that is much higher than
today’s regulations. LEED and BREEAM
are quickly gaining ground.’
Prestigious projectsCareful guidance through each phase
provides clear results and tight cost
control, as is emphasized by Mr. Pavel
Houfek, project manager at Tebodin
Czech Republic. ‘We are working on an
EPCM project for the new AU Optronics
manufacturing plant in Trencin, Slovakia.
The Taiwanese company is one of the
world’s leading producers of LCD
panels and wanted the building
LEED-certified. We were also
awarded a contract for EPCM services
by a North American company,
which is building a new industrial
plant in Czech Republic. The
Tebodin services include the LEED
certification process. The Tebodin
EPCM team in Czech Republic is
supported by the team from the
Shanghai office which is responsible
for the LEED certification.’

In an HSE survey of industrial construction sites in Lipetsk, Russia, the Yokohama site came out on top.
Yokohama Rubber Company of Japan is
building a production plant for car tires
in the Special Economical Zone (SEZ) of
Lipetsk, about 400 kilometers south of
Moscow. In a SEZ, large-scale industrial
investments are encouraged with tax
incentives.
Tebodin started the design work in
September 2009. The ground works on
the 24-hectare site began in January. The
comparison with other construction sites
in the region turned out very favorable
for Yokohama and Tebodin. ‘The report
was published in an industrial newspaper
and sounded almost like a fairytale to
us’, said construction manager Mr. Oleg
Nestruev at the Moscow office.
In a lively, almost lyrical description
of their visit, the auditors praised the
working conditions, safety measures,
communication, general order and
cleanliness. The ‘real industrial standards’
found here should be seen as an
example by other constructors. The
auditors also note that while ‘everything
is exciting at this site and deserves
every compliment, it is organized with
a western approach, and we work in
Russia.’
The start-up of the new Yokohama
plant in Lipetsk is scheduled for
September 2011. The factory will
produce 1.4 million tires a year and
expansions are possible in later project
phases. Tebodin is responsible for the
conceptual, basic and detail design, the
project management, procurement and
construction management services.

Poland’s road building program, and
the completion of the motorway
in particular, has been speeded up
because of the Euro 2012 football
championships in Poland and Ukraine.
Tebodin has already contributed to
many new and improved roads in
Poland. Mr. Artur Majczak, Director
at the Katowice office: ‘The General
Directorate of National Roads and
Motorways (GDDKiA) is familiar with
the way we work. They know they can
fully rely on our capabilities in road
design and construction, and on the
speed that is essential here.’
ConsortiumIn May of this year, GDDKiA issued
the public tender for the construction
contractor. Mr. Majczak: ‘in this
project, we lead a consortium of
several specialized companies. We
prepared all documentation needed
for the construction of a road section
of over 40 km, along with all the
necessary technical infrastructure such
as interchanges, bridges, viaducts,
service areas, underground utilities
and environmental protection .’
LogisticsBuilding this last section between
Rszeszow and Jaroslav will mark
the completion of the A4, but
Tebodin’s Muscat office has been awarded a detailed design project for the ‘Yibal
2nd Stage Depletion Compression’ by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO),
in continuance of the FEED project that has almost reached completion.
PDO intends to install a fourth depletion compressor at the Government Gas
Plant (GGP), identical to the existing three compressor units installed in 2006.
This installation will ensure that the gas plant can continue to produce at a maximum
throughput within the next 2 to 3 years The fourth depletion compressor is to be
installed as a re-wheeled compressor and construction activities will be carried
out in parallel with re-wheeling of the other three depletion compressors.

the main producer of oil and gas in
the Netherlands. Tebodin has worked
together with NAM for decades. Mr.
Michiel Slot of the Safety Department
at the Hengelo office: ‘Tebodin is the
construction is not going to be easy
by any means. ‘Time is becoming a
pressing issue, as the road should be
opened in June 2012. The coming
months are critical. They will show
whether the complex logistics can be
dealt with adequately. Seven million
cubic meters of material has to be
moved for the embankments, while
the construction of adjacent sections of
the A4 and S19 continues as planned.’
SupervisionThe consortium will also supervise the
construction works. ‘We will organize
continuous surveillance to ensure that
the execution is fully compatible with
the design and documentation’,
Mr. Majczak concludes. ‘The key
to success is an efficient project
organization, not only for the site but
also for the entire region. We will need
all our knowledge and experience
to solve the problems that will
undoubtedly present themselves.
After completion, the A4 will have
reached its full 670 kilometers, and
we will have made another major
contribution to Poland’s road
network.’

We will talk about what can go wrong
and how to prevent it. Design integrity
is a crucial element in the program,
and Shell is introducing new design

Your first-aid kit may very well be filled with HARTMANN dressings and bandages – HARTMANN is one of the foremost European providers of medical and hygiene products. Tebodin Russia has been awarded a leading part as HARTMANN’s engineering and management partner for construction of a new production plant in Russia.
Strong marketHARTMANN, based in Heidenheim,
Germany, operates through subsidiaries
across Europe, North America, Africa,
Asia and Australia. In 2009, the 9,500
employees in the HARTMANN GROUP
generated sales of over 1.5 billion
euros. Despite the economic crisis and
cuts in healthcare budgets, sales of
their products in the fields of wound
treatment, incontinence hygiene,
and infection prevention keep rising.
HARTMANN is one of the oldest German
industrial companies, dating back to a
textile factory established by Ludwig von
Hartmann in 1818.
HARTMANN expects Russia to be an
emerging market for personal hygiene
products, such as Adult Incontinence
hygienic absorbent products. Such
products, based on HARTMANN´s
high performance standards, will be
manufactured in its Russian factory.
Implementation of the new project
in Gus-Khrustalny started in April
2010 with the conceptual design of
the production building, warehouse,
office block, technical buildings, utility
supplies, infrastructure and production
equipment, altogether covering
about 14,000 m².
Proven standardsHARTMANN has challenged Tebodin
to implement their proven working
standards at the new production site
in Russia. Hartmann chose Tebodin
because of its good references,
convincing experience and qualifications
to implement EPCM projects in Russia.
Furthermore, HARTMANN trusts
Tebodin’s capabilities to realize their
European expectations on quality, budget
and schedule in Russia. It also helps that
Tebodin staff is fluent in Russian, English
and German.
Far-reaching responsibilitiesTebodin is responsible for the complete
realization of the project and for the
investment budget. The Tebodin team of
20 experts take on project management,
design (conceptual, basic and detail),
permitting, procurement, commissioning,
and construction management.
Moreover, Tebodin and HARTMANN
have agreed on a target price for the
investment and on a no-claims bonus
system to motivate staying under the
target price.
To that avail, HARTMANN project
manager Wilhelm Esslinger, who
is experienced in construction and
controlling of quality, budget and
schedule, is working closely together
with Tebodin project manager Eberhard
Rohlfing in regular coordination meetings
in Moscow and Heidenheim. Securing
the operation permit will signal the end
of the project, around January 2012.
HARTMANN already foresees a role for
Tebodin in a possible future extension of
its new plant in Gus-Khrustalny.

An innovative process by RWE, a key energy supplier, uses Germany’s lignite to supply clean, efficient, environmentally-friendly energy. Tebodin’s task is to provide a conceptual study for all inventories. This includes a selection and specification of all infrastructure, utilities and logistical systems.
There is immense pressure these days
for clean energy resources. RWE is a
major European player and plans a
unique lignite power plant incorporating
many new technologies which will
be environmentally friendly. The key
technology is Integrated Gasification
Combined Cycle with Carbon Dioxide
Capture and Storage (IGCC-CCS).
Unique new technologyUsing this technology, lignite will be
dried and gasified. The CO2 will be
captured and is planned to be stored
in salt caverns. The clean hydrogen
gas is then used to fire gas turbines.
Additionally the exhaust heat is used
to drive a steam turbine for enhanced
efficiency.
Innovative projectTebodin was entrusted with this
extensive and innovative project because
of its experience and competitive offer.
The project scope includes storage and
transport of solid wastes embedded
in an overall logistical plan with roads
and loading/unloading zones. Utilities
such as steam and condensate, raw
water, boiler feed water, fuel system
(LPG), fire fighting water, cooling water,
demineralized water, decalcinated
water plus several waste water streams,
plant air and chemicals were subject
to pre-engineering design. Tebodin
also determined the requirements for
secondary buildings, pipe racks, auxiliary
electrical systems and the tie-ins with
the existing on-site systems.
Specific experienceWe were selected because of our
experience in multidisciplinary projects
but also for our flexibility to cope
with the given scope within a tough
time frame. The multidisciplinary line
up of Tebodin enabled us to quickly
understand the needs of this innovative
plant technology. Following an intensive
briefing process we were able to
effectively work with our engineering
partner towards the desired high quality
outcome for our client RWE.
Close cooperationThe project started in July 2009 and
took approximately 11 months to
complete. Tebodin worked closely with
the client and another supplier, which
was responsible for the conceptual
engineering of the central process units
and some directly connected utilities.
RWE provided the conceptual design
for the power island and coal drying
procedure from other third party studies
to design a sound overall infrastructure.
Based on the results of this conceptual
study, RWE will decide on further
project development.

product, mostly for McDonald’s.
The design allows for quick future
expansions and the new facilities,
330 kilometers south of Moscow,
will serve the regional market.
The facility will focus on supplying
products to McDonald’s in Russia.
Cargill will also use this facility to

Beat the heatImagine working in temperatures between 38 and 49 degrees Celsius. In the United Arab Emirates these extreme conditions can endanger worker safety as heat stress or increased body temperatures can lead to serious incidents.
That’s why this summer the QHSE
department of Tebodin Middle East
organized three heat stress campaigns.
‘Beat the heat’ meetings were held in
conjunction with the contractors
and major clients.
Creating awareness ‘Heat stress can pose a serious threat
and it is very risky for anyone to spend
more than ten minutes in the direct sun’,
Sabeer Ali, QHSE Manager at Tebodin
Middle East explains. ‘That’s why the
Ministry of Labour of Abu Dhabi has
started a campaign to increase awareness
around this issue.’ Creating awareness
is essential to change one’s behavior,
Sabeer Ali states. ‘The United Arab
Emirates is a multicultural society, with
employees originating mostly from South
Asia. Fortunately, the communication
material for this campaign was translated
into several languages. This increases the
chance that employees take better care
of themselves and their colleagues.’
Prevention Apart from making employees more
aware about health issues due to
extreme temperatures, the meetings
were also designed to advise the
attendees about how to cope with these
conditions. A regular intake of fluids is
essential to avoid dehydration. Eating
foods high in water content, such as
water melons, cucumbers and apples are
healthy and viable options because of
their fibre content. Protective clothing,
especially head gear, helps to avoid heat
stroke. Shifting work to cooler areas
during the hottest time of the day is also
a way to decrease the risk of becoming a
victim of the heat.
