of artistsfhc ParlandXewhall Company will

While n young lady named Annain this town was entertaining herbeau last night their conversationturned on the attack on the police iniNew York Saturday by an anarchist-who was fatally wounded by a pre-mature

¬

explosion of a bomb he wastrying to throw The young manI took Anna around the neck and toldI her he would show her how to be anAnnakissed but the proceedings

I were interrupted by the girls fatherIwho kicked the young man into thestreet remarking as he did so thathe at least knew how to fire a bum

The new Merry Widow sailorI shape can be found now at Mrs Min ¬

nie Bosticks

Without casting any reflection onour esteemed city fathers we wouldlike to inquire why the vitrified brickplaced on the sidewalk in front ofthe Baptist church when it was sup ¬

posed that portion of the street would-be paved are allowed to remain onthe walk now that it has been decid-ed

¬

I not to pave the street abutting-the government lot They certainly-do not make an inviting picture piledup in a disorderly heap right inthe very door of one of our churchesfind it is impossible for two people topass without one or the other wading-in the sand between the sidewalk andthe fence We would respectfully

I suggest that they be removed tosome more appropriate place until I

such time as they may be needed forpaving purposes-

AN ALLIGATOR YARD DOG

Most of the residents on SouthIhird street are acquainted with lit-

tle¬

Alligator Joe Joe is probably sixyears old His present owners havehad him for four years and he has Inthat time grown from eighteen in-

ches¬

to three feet in length Untillast fall Joe was kept in a big boxin which was a big pan of water thathe could curl up in when he wanteda bath From about the first of May I

until November he cats meat greedilybut during the remaining months ofthe year he cannot be made to eatanything and though meat be plac-ed

¬

in his mouth he will shake it out s

One very cold winter Joe froze ap-parently

¬

as dead as a door nail iceI half an inch thick haying formedover his pan He was laid out on the

I

grass and his early demise dulymourned The mourning was shorthowever as the noon day sun thaw-ed

¬

I him out and he was a lively look-ing

¬

corpse Last fall Joe got out ofhis box and it was supposed to seekkindred spirits had gone away butthis spring he was discovered emerg¬

ing from under the house where hehad been all winter without water

I He does not apparently desire to re ¬I turn to captivity and although he willroam around the yard he scoots underthe house when approached too close ¬

ly It is funny to see the alligatorcrawl under the spray from the yardhose when the water is running andhe enjoys the shower like a kittendoes sunshine It is also amusing tosee the pet dog play with the alligatoror at least try to for Joe only looks-on and with a not over friendly eyeWhen Joe starts for his retreat the

I dog is very brave and snaps andbarks most valiantly but alwaysstops short of the vicious lookingjaws Joe is supposed to catch miceand keep the straw cats away forthese night prowlers do not frequent-the premises The other night whenJoes lord and master stepped on himhe jumped some high and also saidthings which would not look well inprint I Joes ramblings around theyard especially at night caused thefamily some uneasiness at first butthey are becoming used to him nowand believe that they possess the onlyand original alligator yard dog
