Oak Grove Mission Statement
Our mission is to glorify God through worship, bring people to faithful
discipleship in Christ, equip them for ministry in the church and the
world, and grow in our love for one another through fellowship.
FROM YOUR PASTOR
This will be our last Christmas together. In January I will
leave to begin my pastorate at Olivet Moravian Church. These
12 and a half years have flown by for me. Sometimes it’s hard
to believe we have been together so long.
I have loved being your pastor. We have shared many of life’s
most intimate moments together. I have seen your babies
right after they were born in the hospital. I baptized them as
infants. I confirmed them as adult members of the church. I have visited you when you were sick and shut-in. I have been
with you during the deaths of your loved ones. I have
preached the funerals of many saints in this church who have
gone on to be with our Lord. I have performed marriage cere-
monies. I have preached and taught the Word. We have ex-
perienced beautiful worship services in our sanctuary. I have counseled you when you needed advice or a listening ear. I
have led the boards and this congregation through its ups and
downs. We have accomplished much for the kingdom of God.
Souls have been saved, lives have been renewed, and we have
grown spiritually. We have served the needs of many people both inside and outside the congregation. We have worked
together to serve the Lord.
And you have ministered to me. You have supported me with
your attendance, cooperation, and participation. You have
allowed me to try new things. I don’t think you ever told me “no.” You have forgiven me when I have made mistakes. You
have had me into your homes for a meal. You have taken me
out to restaurants. You have sent me inspiring and support-
ive cards. You have given me beautiful gifts. You have made
me a part of your families. You were there for me when my mother was sick and when she died. You have loved and
cared for me in ways I shall never forget.
You are a wonderful group of people and a special congrega-
tion. I love you with all my heart. These have been happy
years for me. I thank you for everything you have done for me. I will miss you, but our friendships will continue.
I look forward to celebrating our last Christmas together. May
God richly bless these last few weeks together.
Happy Advent and Merry Christmas!
I’ll see you in church,
Matthew

Newsletter Notes
From around the Southern Province
Every year when the Directory and Statistics comes out we take great delight applauding the churches that have made gains in all three categories, confirmed communicants, total, and average worship attendance. For 2013 (it says 2012; typo) New Beginnings, Kernersville, New Hope (N.C.), and Hopewell are our shining lights. Congratulations! You set a fine example for us all.
Friedland and Friedberg have joined the (we hope) grow-ing practice of arranging contributions through the Internet. Monthly tithing or one time only gifts can be easily made once this practice is put in place. As Friedberg puts it, “You will never miss giving if you are on vacation, out of town, sick, or the weather is bad. (Winter is just around the corner.)”
Messiah has been installing new windows in its fellowship hall and around the corner in parts of the preschool area as well as replacing old heating and air conditioner units with more ef-ficient ones.
King has a pleasant problem — not enough room in the youth house when large numbers of teens gather for Sunday school and youth meetings. Solution: knock out a non-load-bearing wall to enlarge the meeting space. The renovation is ex-pected to cost about $200 and is being planned for King’s mis-sion blitz when some of the teens can help. Now that’s a prob-lem (and solution) every church in the Province should have.
Thanks to generous donations and discount, Hopewell now has two automated external defibrillators and the trained per-sonnel to use them. One defibrillator is kept in the church build-ing and the other in the family life center.
Now hear this! Fairview has two new speakers in fellow-ship hall, “making listening very enjoyable.”
One church board’s news: “The Board met on Monday. Many items were on the agenda, all of which were handled with great care.” And prayer too, we trust. Richard W. Starbuck

Board of Elders Report
The Board met Tuesday, November 11. Inter-cessory prayer was offered for the needs of our
congregation. Faye Gardner gave a report on the Backpack Program. Elementary schools in
Forsyth County pack backpacks full of food to provide meals for the children over the week-end. They depend on financial donations from
individuals, churches, and organizations to purchase the food. Middle Fork Elementary
participates in the program and the board vot-ed to give $200 out of the Missions Fund to them to support the program.
The board designated Thanksgiving and Christ-mas Lovefeast offerings. Thanksgiving will go
to the backpack program and Christmas will be divided between Sunnyside and the Rescue
Mission. Canned food drive will be held through Novem-
ber 23 and donations will go to Bethabara Food Pantry.
OCC shoeboxes will be dedicated during wor-ship on November 23.
Joint Board Report
Pastor Allen began the meeting with prayer. The 2015 budget was passed. The board
talked about options during the interim period in order to be prepared when PEC meets with them.
