o inform the Expert Group on the changes in HS 2017 for agriculture, forest and fishery products
o share FAO experience on how to contribute to HS review
classifies > 98% of merchandise in international trade
almost all countries in the world use it for statistical and administrative purposes:
to influence the HS means to significantly impact data availability and quality on trade in agriculture worldwide
as a multipurpose tool, it is often used also for statistics other than trade and as the basis for other classifications:
outstanding opportunity for data harmonization across countries and different statistical domains

Thanks to the FAO proposal, the modification for codes of fish and
fishery products in HS 2012 was significant: 190 amendments implemented and 90 new commodities (species by different product form) introduced
For HS 2017, the proposal was in the direction to further improve the quality and precision of fish trade coverage, through an improved specification for species and product forms
