direCtor’s letter
Welcome to the 2013 SCTP/SPP National Team Championships being held in Sparta, IL, July 15th - 20th.
Our Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation Board of Directors, and our National Staff join me in welcoming all the shooter athletes, coaches, family and friends who are attending this great event.
The growth of SCTP continues as we add teams in all the divisions and the future looks very promising. The heart of our program is the coaches and volunteers, at the local team level, who work hard to establish teams and give unselfishly of their time. We also acknowledge the families of our shooters who support their activities and give them encouragement.
Our new Scholastic Pistol Program has grown to 60 teams, many of whom are here competing in our first ever SPP national competition. The SPP will give the SSSF new opportunities to reach out to more youth shooters and to grow the depth of our organization. SPP invites you to try this exciting sport and we have practice bays and loaner guns available.
We welcome our new conservation partners, National Wild Turkey Federation and Pheasants Forever.
We want to thank all our partners and sponsors for their generous support. The National Shooting Sports Foundation is our parent and industry partner and we thank them for their help and guidance. We are also pleased to be partners with USA Shooting in the development of potential Olympic Shooters and are proud that two of our former SCTP members won gold in international skeet at the 2012 London Games.
We are fortunate to have sponsors like Midway USA/Larry and Brenda Potterfield whose generosity is instrumental in allowing us to grow youth shooting. There are many more great sponsors who are listed in this program and represented on site at the Championships. Please take time to visit them and say thanks!
The SSSF National Staff, SCTP/SPP Staff, Directors of Development and our State Advisers work hard all year long to make our program better and to host a great Championship. We thank them for their efforts.
Lastly, our thanks to the World Shooting & Recreation Center, State of Illinois, and USA Shooting/Olympic Training Center for allowing us to utilize their facilities for our events.
Again, welcome and let’s have a great Championship and most importantly have FUN!
