Discussion Item Three – Coursework Need I say more…
• Hardware• Software that you want to use is not running • Power Cut• Computers being slow • Students going on the internet or emailing instead of
working• Students trying to print other work for other lessons • Demo activity on teachers computer your not facing the
class or being stuck at front • Students once logging on not sure what to do • Trying to get students attention mid way through lesson
Issues with being in an ICT Classroom
• Quiz • Cryptogram• Crosswords • Listening activities such as listening to a song and counting the
number of times a word is sung• Youtube video • Catch phrase guess what the lesson is about• Puzzle to guess what lesson is about
Make sure they feed into the lesson some how
Good Starters
• Be prepared• Make it Fun • Try and relate to their interest• Make it clear which types of jobs these skills would be used in• Always make it clear how students can move on to the next level
question them about it• GCSE & A-Level lessons use the mark scheme make it clear to
students how many marks they can achieve if they work hard• If in doubt make additional resources to support learners • Don’t be scared to stop lesson and bring students back to middle if
98% of them don’t know what they are doing.• Don’t be afraid to change your plan but make sure its relevant and
you leave time for plenary
Tips for lesson
• Record on screen video demonstrating how to do specific formulas or create queries etc
• Create a step by step sheet• Create differentiated tasks for specific students• Create differentiated worksheets taking into consideration
language and level of questioning• Get student to self reflect on their learning and understanding
and let them decide on what worksheet or task they do• Give specific instructions to support staff on which students to
help and how to help them (if being observed have a copy of this)
By task/resource/outcome/support
Differentiation
• Go and speak to all students and get them to explain to you how they can achieve a better level, grade or score
• Thermometer to measure score of a quiz at start and end of lesson
• Peer assess work at start of lesson give marks do it again in middle and at the end use post it notes like traffic lights to show progression
• Use classroom management software to send out questions during the lesson and save responses
• Question class by getting them to put their hands up • Create tick sheets
AFL ideas
Good Plenary • Quiz • Peer assessment • Quiz that was done and start and end of lesson • Golden rules • Go round each student gives you a new word they
have written • Group challenges to write as much as they remember• Simply thumbs up or down

•Coursework PreparationWhat are the issues?
For the teacherCoursework spec covered in time? Are the pupils competent to cover the criteria? How to plan a format of a coursework – what is required? How to help pupils with resources? To allocate time for specific tasksManagement issues in coursework lessonsReviewing pupils progress
For the pupil/learnerKnowing their best way to understand what is requiredKnowing how much time might be required – planningAccess to coursework resources guides/internet/place to study?
How do your pupils learn?
Will be key to enabling them to make progress with coursework
TipAs much as possible, use ways which allow
them to access learning via VAK Are they aware of how
they individually learn?
How best to keep on top of coursework•Make a clear schedule of all marking that needs to be done•Make it clear to students you have lots of work to mark therefore they must meet deadlines or risk not getting feedback• Involve parents by getting them to sign mark sheets• Send letters home and make phone calls • Put students on report• Run catch up classes
