Hello Everyone
Can you believe it’s October already? We’ve had an-
other fantasc start to the school year at Meadows
School. The month of September apparently was one of
the we#est in history with over 170 mm of precipitaon
recorded in Brandon. Fortunately we were able to stay
dry inside and as usual, offering great learning opportuni-
es for our students.
On Sept. 25th we held our Terry Fox Walk raising $500
for cancer research. We hosted Indigenous Educaon
Week from Sept. 30th-Oct. 4th recognizing the theme
“Every Child Ma#ers”. During the Indigenous Week Kick
Off assembly, we were capvated by presentaons from
YR students, dancing from a group of our Indigenous
Meadows Students and performances by Eldon Campbell,
Shawna Mozden and Desiree Orbis a father, daughter,
granddaughter trio who specialize in fiddling, Mes danc-
ing and story telling. Our students and staff wore orange
shirt pins for the enre week. On Friday the orange T-
shirt pins were a#ached on to a large display of a buffalo
as a symbol of reconciliaon.
Our student council elecons were held on Oct. 7th.
We had some excellent candidates running this year.
On Oct. 16th at 6:30 pm, BPS officer Alice Po#er will
hold a parent informaon session. The presentaon top-
ics will include the do’s and don’ts of social media for
kids, cyberbullying and drug awareness.
For the third year in a row Meadows School will part-
ner up with Farm Credit Canada for the Give Food –Give
Thanks food drive. All food items collected will be donat-
ed to Samaritan House to help local people in need. FCC
will arrive on Oct. 17th to pick up our food donaons.
More excing news as Meadows School is set to host
the BSD Youth Revoluon Kick Off on Oct.18.
Enjoy the excing month of October!

UNITED WAY’S TOOLS FOR SCHOOLS
NUT ALLERGIES
Just a reminder that we cannot have any nuts/tree
nuts in our school. Please make sure when making
lunches or sending snacks, that there are no nuts; that
your snack is made in a nut free factory; and your
snack does not say ‘may contain traces
of nuts’. As well, please remind your
children to not share their food.
Thank you
Volunteers with the United Way Brandon and District
delivered school supplies for Tools For Schools.
Thank you to the United Way volunteers and to our
community members for donating these supplies!
We have new patrols on
once again this year
and we ask driver‘s to
please be patient with
them.
Thank you!
PATROLS

lice maybe a problem during the school year. We en-
courage you to check your children weekly. We will be

BUSSED STUDENTS
REMINDER: All parents are reminded to call Trans-
portation at 204-729-3975 if their child will not be
on the bus.
Greetings from Earl Oxford School Home Economics: Clothing & Textiles
My name is Ms. Miranda Sadler and I am the new Clothing & Textiles teacher for all grade 7 students that have chosen Human Ecology/Home Economics as their option for the year. I wanted to send a quick note out to all families of students that are in my course this year, either now or in February. I have developed a new program that develops basic sewing skills and promotes creative expression and exploration, while focusing on sustainability. Due to this, students do not need to bring in any funds or supplies for the course, as they are being provided.
If any parents/guardians have any questions, feel free to contact me at:
sadler.miranda@bsd.ca ~ 204-729-3273

LUNCH INFORMATION
We are asking parents/guardians
to remove any nut products from
your child’s lunches and snacks. If
you send sandwiches with Wow
butter could you please mark the
sandwich, so we know it does not
contain peanut butter. We have students with serious
nut/peanut allergies. The best way to ensure a safe
environment for these students is for all parents to
be dutiful and carefully pack their children’s lunches
and snacks free of peanut products.
Here are some healthy alternatives that are nut
free:
• Breadsticks, crackers, pita bread, muffins
• Raw vegetables and dip
• Yogurt, pudding
• Chicken pieces, cold meats
• Cheese and crackers
Please do not send items that require heating as stu-
dents do not have access to microwaves.
Students that go home for lunch should
not be returning until 12:40.
Your cooperation is appreciated!

We are looking forward to another exciting year in
Youth Revolution. Our YR team had our first meet at
the end of September where we discussed upcoming
initiatives, volunteer opportunities, and exciting de-
tails about Kick Off and WE Day.
Meadows School is hosting the Youth Revolution Kick
Off this year. Every Youth Revolution member from
the Brandon School Division will meet in our gymnasi-
um for the day where we will enjoy guest speakers
and performers, as well as share initiative ideas and
planning.
Food Drive
Give Thanks– Give Food
Once again, Meadows School is partnering with
FCC to collect non-perishables for local families !
Classrooms are collecting food items from Octo-
ber 7th through October 17th. Last year, Meadows
School made a huge impact by collecting 1,270
food items and donating them to the Samaritan
House here in Brandon. A friendly competition be-
tween classrooms will take place. We are looking
for your support to collect items for this year’s
initiative!
Thanks for your support!

STUDENT COUNCIL INDIGENEOUS AWARENESS
WANT TO VOLUNTEER
Meadows School, students and staff welcome your
help at spirit days, field trips, library and in the
classroom. If you
are interested in
volunteering at
Meadows School,
you will need to
complete a Child
Abuse Registry
Check and a Criminal Record Check.
On Monday, September 30th—October 4th Mead-
ows School honored Residential School Survivors by
wearing orange and paying tribute to Indigenous cul-
ture.
The color orange was inspired by Phyllis, whom in
1973 was told she could not wear her new orange
shirt at school and was made to change into a plain
shirt.
STUDENT ABSENCES
Meadows School Home School Liaison facilitates the
attendance and call back program which is a way of
making sure that students who have left for school
have arrived safely. Parents of children who are ab-
sent without a reason will be contacted to verify the
reason for the absence. This is a way to ensure your
child's safety and attendance at school.
If your child is going to be absent or late, leaving ear-
ly, or picked up by someone other than their parents/
guardians, please ensure you notify our Home School
Liaison, Mrs. Airey at 204-729-3946.
