Therewill also be presentations byDemetra Tsiamis (WTERT-CCNY)andThanosBourtsalas(WTERT-Columbia).AhighlightoftheCongresswillbeaCEOpaneldiscussion inwhichMr.Steve Jones(Covanta)andMr.ChenXiaoping(Everbright).Mr.KevinChengoftheEarthEngineeringCenteratColumbiarepresentedGWCataJensenCombustionmeetingonboilersfueledbybiomasswastematerialsinMontreal(Sept14-15.2017).InAugust2017,AdjunctProf.BourtsalasofColumbiaUniversityspenttwoweeksinChilemeetingwithProf.AlexGodoyofWTERT-ChileandindustrialleadersinterestedinintroducingWTEinChile.Prof.BourtsalaspresentedattheUniversityofDesarollo(August 18). In addition, he was invited speaker at a seminar organized by theColumbiaGlobalCenterinSantiago(August25)aswellaspresentedattheUniversityofLaFrontera(August30)andtheUniversityofConcepcion(September1).In the summerof 2017, Prof. Themelismade keynotepresentations at theMatER(WTERT-Italy) international Conference organized by Prof. Stefano Consonni inPiacenza, Italy (May22-24); and theWasteManagementConferenceorganizedbyProf.MariaLoizidouinAthens,Greece(June23).Prof.BourtsalasrepresentedtheEarthEngineeringCenterandtheGWCattheEarthDayinTexas,Dallas(April22).Prof. Bourtsalas presented at theNorthAmericaWTEConference inMinneapolis,Minnesota(April25).Prof. Bourtsalas participated and presented at the WTERT-India Conference inNagpur (April 11-12).Also, hewas invited speaker at a seminarorganizedby theColumbiaGlobalCenter inMumbai(April17)aswellaspresentedatMSRamaiahUniversity inBangalore (April 18).Heparticipatedandpresentedat a roundtablehostedatIITDelhi,whereallthemajorstakeholdersofwastemanagementattended(April19).Dr.ThanosBourtsalasmadepresentationsontheWTEtechnologyatministeriallevelmeetingsorganizedbyUNECE inHongKong (May9 -11) andAstana,Kazakhstan(June11-14).Dr.ThanosBourtsalasrepresentedtheGWCattheTechnicalAdvisoryPanel(TAP)onthebeneficialusesofWTEbottomashesinSingapore(March2015).Thisprojectis supported by the National Environmental Agency (NEA), started in 2013 andexpectedtofinishinDecember2017.

In April 26-28 Prof. Themelis was co-chair, with Mr Chen Xiaoping of ChinaEverbrightInternationalandProf.KefaCenofZhejiangUniversity,oftheInauguralMeetingofWTERT-Asia,thefirstregionalorganizationoftheGlobalWTERTCouncil.ThemeetingwasattendedbytenexistingorpotentialnewmembersoftheGlobalWTERTCouncil.
