INTRODUCTION OF WELDING AND LASER WELDING

INTRODUCTION OF WELDING

WELDING is a joining process that produces coalescence of materials by heating them to the welding temperature ,with or without the application of pressure alone and with or without the use of filler

material.

TYPES OF JOINT

• Butt Joint • Corner Joint• Tee Joint• Lap Joint• Edge Joint

TYPES OF WELDING ON BASES OF GROOVE

• Straight • Single-V• Single-U • Double-V• Double-V• Single Bevel• Single-J• Double Bevel• Double-J

TYPES OF WELDING

1: Gas Welding(a): Air Acetylene(b): Oxy  Acetylene(c): Oxy Hydrogen Welding

2: Arc Welding(a): Carbon Arc welding(b); Plasma Arc welding(c): Shield Metal Arc Welding(d): T.I.G. ( Tungsten Inert Gas Welding)(e): M.I.G. ( Metal Inert Gas Welding)

TYPES OF WELDING

3: Resistance Welding:(a): Spot welding(b): Seam welding(c): Projection welding(d): Resistance Butt welding(e): Flash Butt welding

4: Solid State Welding:(a): Cold welding(b): Diffusion welding(c): Forge welding(d): Fabrication welding(e): Hot pressure welding(f): Roll welding

TYPES OF WELDING

5: Thermo Chemical Welding(a): Thermite welding(b): Atomic welding

6:  Radiant Energy Welding(a): Electric Beam Welding(b): Laser Beam Welding

LASER BEAM WELDING

• “Light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.” • Electrons are atomic particles that exist at specific energy levels. These energy

levels are unique and are different for every atom or molecule.• Electrons in outer rings are at higher energy levels than those in the inner rings. A

flash of light can bump electrons to higher energy levels by the injection of energy. When an electron drops from an outer ring to an inner ring or level, the excess of energy is given off as light. • The wavelength or the color emitted is related to the amount of energy released

LAASER FUNDAMENTAL

Primary Controllable Parameters

• Laser Beam Energy Output Characteristics(i) Voltage (ii) Pulse Duration

• Laser Focus Characteristic(iii) Laser Beam Diameter

CHANGE IN VOLTAGE

Increased voltage results in deeper physical penetration with less melting due to physical pressure

CHANGE IN PULSE DURATION

• Increased pulse duration results in deeper and wider melting

CHANGE IN VOLTAGE AND PULSE DURATION

• Simultaneous increase in voltage and pulse duration results in deeper melting

CHANGE IN BEAM DIAMETER

• Increased beam diameter results in shallow soft penetration and wide, but soft melting

GENERLY USES LASER WELDINGTypical commercial lasers for welding • 1 CO2 Laser• 2 Nd3+:YAG Lasers• 3 Lamp-pumped • 4 LD-pumped• 5 Disk Laser• 6 Diode Laser• 7 Fibber Laser
