NLCIL Swachhta Pakhwada

As per the directives from Government of India, Swatchatha Pakhwada 2018 was celebrated from 16th - 30th June 2018 at NLC India and its subsidiary companies. To this effect, an action plan was drawn up and sent to the Ministry on this score, covering activities to be carried out at NLC India and the peripheral areas of the Industrial complex. This Pakhwada was formally inaugurated by Shri Piyush Goyal , Hon’ble Minister of Railways and Coal, Government of India on 14.06.18 by flagging of the mass rally organized by Neyveli students, who raised slogans in support of cleanliness in major crowded areas. More than 500 students had participated in the rally. On 16th June 2018, NLCIL organized Mass awareness campaign insisting on the Importance of Cleanliness in peripheral village Kokamma Palayam in association with the People Service Group (PSG). Members from village Administration, more than 250 volunteered from general public enthusiastically participated in cleaning works and took the resolution to maintain cleanliness with this Swachh Bharat inspiration. A mass awareness rally by the students and the general public went around the village to create awareness on the importance of cleanliness and environment among the people of the village. Senior Officials, Executives from NLCIL CSR Dept. enthusiastically participated in the campaign. To mark the occasion a torch was lit up and taken around the village and affirmation to maintain cleanliness taken up from villagers as part of taking the pledge for Clean India Mission by the public. A skit was performed by PSG group projecting Merits and Demerits of Cleanliness in public. Cleanliness Drive inaugurated by all heads in respective Units. Mass Tree Plantation was carried out in Industrial Units and in Township areas of Neyveli, Barsingsar and its subsidiary companies, NTPL & NUPPL. The Executives and the Employees of NLCIL enthusiastically participated in Swachhtha Activities at the Industrial Corridors and the Administrative offices at Neyveli, Subsidiary Companies, and Outside Projects spruced up the respective areas as per Action Plan.
Mass Awareness Rally on importance of Cleanliness at Kokamma Palayam Village
On 18th, June 2018 : NLCIL organized a special programme in coordination with WIPS/NLCIL
at Govt.Higher Secondary School at Mudanai Village to create awareness on personal
hygiene for the girl children. In this event, around 200 girl students from primary school and
general public participated. A Mass rally is conducted to create awareness on Personal
Hygiene in the public. Also, a Lecture was conducted by NLCIL GH Doctor on topic Personal
Hygiene and Environmental Hygiene for school students as well as the public. A quiz
competition was conducted on the importance of Personal Hygiene and Environmental
Hygiene for girl children/women. CGM/CSR, GM/CSR of NLCIL and Village Head participated
in the occasion. Also, As per action plan, Swachhtha Activities carried out in Various
Industrial and Administrative Units of NLCIL

Swachhtha Activities at NLCIL Indusrial Hub
On 19th June 2018, organized “Cleanliness drive and removal of Plastics/ Garbage’s
including Hospitals & Dispensaries Cleaning” Primary Health Centre at Vadalur, Primary
Health Centre at Marungur and Govt. Hospital at Vridhachalam.
At Vadalur, 50 Nos of tree plantation was done in front of the primary health center. A
volunteer’s drama as Mahatma Gandhiji distributed the saplings. Plastics and garbage ’s are
removed from the hospital premises area. Overhead tank and the hospital premises open
area was cleaned. In addition to the above, the following activities carried out nearby school
also. 20 Nos of tree plantation was done in the nearby school ( Govt Higher Secondary
school) Overhead tank and school surrounding area cleaning done.
Plastics & Garbage area is cleared from the surrounding drinking water area and School
campus.
At Vridhachalam. Organized Cleanliness drive and removal of Plastics/ Garbages including
Hospitals & Dispensaries Cleaning” was inaugurated by Dr.Swaminathan Chief Medical
Officer in coordination with, PSG at Govt.Hospital at Vridhachalam. A Mass rally was
conducted to create awareness on Swatch Bharat. Plastics and garbage are removed from
the open area of the hospital premises area. Overhead tank and surrounding area of the
hospital are cleaned. All drainage’s in the hospital are cleaned. Garbages are removed from
the village Market nearby vridhachalam.
The highlight of the programme was Flash Mob dance which was done by volunteers
gripped the public.
At Marungur “Cleanliness drive and removal of Plastics/ Garbages including Hospitals &
Dispensaries Cleaning” Plastics and garbage are removed from the open area of the hospital
premises area. Overhead tank and surrounding area of the Primary Health Centre are
cleaned. A special lecture was given by Dr.Arivoli about Dengue. Water tank and surrounding
area of the Dispensaries are cleaned.

Schools of Karamanikuppam & Veerasingakuppam Villages.
At Veerrasingakuppam Village
A Mass rally was conducted to create awareness on Swatch Bharat, Plastics and garbage are
removed from the open area and school premises involving village youth and school children
and educated on the importance of cleanliness.
At Karamanikuppam Village
Open area and water tank area in the school are cleaned, Plastics and garbage’s are
removed from the shandy, 50 tree saplings are planted at school and shandy, Also Water
tank and surroundings area nearby shandy was cleaned

Swachhta Activities carried out at Industrial and Administrative Units of NLCIL
On 21st June 2018:
NLC India Limited to commemorate International Yoga Day 2018 it has organized
Swachhta Rally and yoga classes in rural village schools. The rally was flagged off by the
CMD, NLCIL in the august presence of Functional Directors. Around 1100 students took part
in the rally. The rally started from Bharathi stadium, Block-10 and concluded at Gandhi
Statue, Main Bazaar at Neyveli.
As part of the Swachhta Pakhawada celebrations and also to disseminate the importance of
Yoga to school children and rural areas, NLCIL, CSR department has organized International
Yoga Day celebrations in four peripheral village schools i.e Govt. Hr. Sc. School, Vadalur,
Govt Hr Sc School, Marungur, Govt Hr Sc School, Iruppu. Govt Middle School, A.Agaram
covering 1,350 students, involving Voluntary Organizations like People Service Group, Sri
Rama Krishna Seva Sangam, Neyveli Blood Donors Association and Association of Voluntary
Blood Donors for Yoga demonstration and propagations.

350 nos of school students participate in yoga Classes in the presence of CGM/ CSR,
DGM/CSR, school Head Master and School staffs incoordination with Asociation of
Voluntary Blood Donors.
A special lecture was given by CGM/CSR of NLCIL and Yoga Trainer demonstrated yoga
postures and their importance
MARUNGUR
Location: Govt Hr Sc School, Marungur.
250 nos of school students have participated in the presence of CGM/CSR, ACM/CSR, Head
Master and Schoool staff in coordination with Neyveli Blood Donors Association.
IRUPPU
Location: Govt Hr Sc School, Iruppu.
750 nos of school students are participated in the yoga classes along with School staffs in
coordination with People Service Group.
A special lecture was given by CGM/CSR and Yoga Trainer about the importance of YOGA.
Yoga demonstration was done by the students in the presence of Yoga Teacher.
At A.AGARAM
Location: Govt Middle School, A.Agaram,(Nearby Kandappankurichi).
150 nos of school students are participated in the yoga classes along with teachers’ in
coordination with Sri Rama Krishna Seva Sangam.
At Sneha Opportunity School for Mentally Retarded,Neyveli

sites are engaged with several Swachhta activities such as cleanliness drives, tree-plantation
and awareness campaigns among employees and neighborhood communities are carried

On 22nd June 2018:
NLCIL has organized a special Lecture on Personal hygiene For Girl children in the peripheral
village Kurinjipadi Govt. Girls Hr Sec School, in association with the members of the Neyveli
Chapter of the Women in Public Sector (WIPS).
At Girls Higher Secondary School around 250 Girl Students actively participated in the
events.
A Mass Awareness Rally in the streets of villages, involving school students was organized
with raising slogans to create awareness among the public on the importance of Personal
hygiene and Environmental Hygiene.
A lecture power point presentation on the importance of Personal hygiene delivered by
NLCIL Doctors to the students as well as the general public.
A Quiz Competition was conducted for the school students on “Personal Hygiene”.
A skit also conducted to create awareness on personal Hygiene for women.

Swachhtha Activities at NLCIL Industrial Units
On June 23rd 2018: NLCIL has organized a special program of “Cleaning and removal of
garbage in Shandy at Vadalur” in the peripheral village of Neyveli in the presence of
CGM/CSR, GM/CSR, DGM/CSR and Executive Officer / Vadalur town panchayat Shri
Balasubramanian.
In this event, around 180 Nos of Volunteers have participated. A Mass Awareness Rally in the
streets of villages, involving school students was organized with raising slogans to create
awareness among the public on the importance of SWACH BHARAT.
A street play has been performed by artists in public places like Main Bazaar to create
awareness among the general public on the importance of hygiene cleanliness. In and
around of shandy area has been cleaned. All plastics and garbage’s are removed from the
shandy and safely disposed of.

On 26th June 2018: NLCIL organized a special program on “Awareness of ODF (Open
Defecation Free) at Mel Poovanikuppam, Thathankuppam, Arangamangalam, and Ayan
Kurinjipadi” in the peripheral villages of Neyveli in the presence of Shri. Siddharthan -
Panchayat Leader, Shri. Babu – Panchayat,Leader,(MelPoovanikuppam), Shri.
Thachinamurthy -VillageLeader, (Thathankuppam).
In MelPoovanikuppam, Govt. Hr. Sec. School and Middle School, around 200 nos of
volunteers have participated in the Swachhata rally, took Swachhta Pledge, a skit was
performed, Pamphlets are distributed to create awareness on ODF.
Similarly in Thathankuppam, Govt. Hr. Sec. School and Middle School, around 125 families
have participated in the Swachhata rally, took Swachhta Pledge to create awareness on ODF.
In Arangamangalam, Govt. Hr. Sec. School and Middle School, around 170 nos of students
have participated in the Swachhata rally, the school premises were cleaned, cleaning of
ponds and school toilets were also carried out.
Similarly, in Ayan Kurinjipadi, Govt. Middle School, around 150 nos of students have
participated in the Swachhata rally, the school premises were cleaned, the water tank was
also cleaned.

On 27th June 2018,- NLCIL has organized a special program of “Awareness Campaign on
Open Defecation Free (ODF) villages at Kollirippu” in the peripheral village of Neyveli in the
presence of CGM/ CSR, CGM/PBD, CGM/ HR (Thermal) GM/HR, School Head Mistress Mrs. S.
Baby and BDO’s Shri. Kamaraj &Shri. Mohan.
In this event around 150 Nos of Volunteers have participated. A Mass Awareness
Rally in the streets of villages, involving school students was organized with raising slogans to
create awareness to the public on importance of Open Defecation Free (ODF).
Surrounding areas of school in the village were cleaned and 50 Nos of trees were also
planted by the students creating a mindset of environmental sustainability among school
children.

On 28th June 2018 - NLCIL organized “Cleanliness drive and removal of Plastics/ Garbages
including Hospitals, Dispensaries & Primary Health Centre at 1. Kolapakkam,2.Sagayapuram
3.Kurinjipadi villages. Also,carried out mass cleaning activities in Industrial Sites.
At KOLAPAKKAM:-
Location: Near Sivan Temple
More than 150 number of village people participate in the Village cleaning work in
the presence of Retired Village Administrative Officer, Shri.Ramaswamy Village Head
Shri Sundarapandiyan, ACM/ CSR, & AEE/ CSR in coordination with People Service Group.
(PSG). Activities like, Swachhata Pledge, Issuing of notices to the villagers, Cleaning of the
village, Awareness on Swachch Bharat and Water Tank Cleaning.
At SAGAYAPURAM. Organized Cleanliness drive and removal of Plastics/ Garbages
including Hospitals & Dispensaries Cleaning”:- More than 120 numbers of village people
and volunteers are participated. Activities like Awareness on Swachh Bharat Mission, Issuing
of notices to the villagers, cleaning of the village. Cleaning of water Tank and its Surrounding
areas carried out.
At Kurinjipadi:-
Location: SKV Higher Sec.School, Kurinjipadi: More than 250nos of school students are
participated in the programme in coordination with Sri Ramakrishna Seva Sangam
volunteers. Rally on Swachch Bharat Mission was taken on the streets of the Kurinjipadi.50
Nos of tree plantation was done in the school campus, Plastics and garbage’s were removed
from the hospital premises area, Overhead tank and the hospital premises open area was
cleaned. As well as , in the evening Neyveli School Children participated in Swachh Bharath
Awareness Rally which was flagged off by the Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu, Shri
Banwarilal Purohit at Township.
On 29th June 2018
NLC India Limited on 29.06.2018 organized “Cleanliness drive and removal of Plastics/
Garbage’s including Hospitals & Dispensaries carried out in the 1.Melpapanpattu
2.Elavarasanpattu, 3.Venkatampettai 4.Annadhanapettai villages near to NLCIL industrial
hub. As per action plan, Swachhta Activities including mass tree plantation carried out in
various Industrial and Administrative Units of NLCIL. Also, in the evening Neyveli School
Children participated in Swachh Bharath Awareness Rally which was flagged off by Hon’ble
Governor of Tamil Nadu, Shri Banwarilal Purohit at Township.

Village Panchayat Union President Shri Veerappan , and ACM/ CSR, in coordination with
People Service Group. (PSG). Activities like Swachhata Pledge, Issuing of notices to the
villagers, Cleaning of the village Open areas, Awareness on Swachh Bharat, Water Tank & Its
surroundings cleaning.
ELAVARASANPATTU:-
Location:- Government Aided Primary School,
More than 100 numbers of village people and volunteers are participated, Issuing of notices
to the villagers, cleaning of the village. Awareness on Swachh Bharat Mission Open area in
the school and water point area was cleaned. (PSG).
VENKATAMPETTAI:-
Location: Panchayat Union Middle School
More than 250 nos of school students and Head Master Mr.Jayakumar have
participated in the programme in-coordination with Association of volunteers Blood Donors.
(AVBD).Activities like Rally on Swachch Bharat Mission was taken on the streets of the
Venkatampettai village. Plastics and garbage’s were removed from the school premises.
ANNADHANAPETTAI.
Location: Panchayat Union Middle School
More than 75 nos of school students have participated in the programme with Head
Mistress smt. Amutha in- coordination with Sri.Ramakrishna Seva Sangam. Rally on Swachch
Bharat Mission was taken on the streets of the Annadhanapettai. Plastics and garbage’s
were removed from the school premises area.20 Nos of tree plantation was done in the
school campus.

On 30th June 2018 – Swachhta Pakhwada Valedictory Day:
NLC India Limited on 30.06.2018 organized Massive Cleaning, Awareness activities on
Swachh Bharath. NLCIL introduced Green Haat initiative at Weekly Markets.
A Mass rally is conducted to create awareness on SWACHH BHARAT by volunteers
started from Neyveli to Cuddalore Silver Beach flagged off by Director/HR, NLCIL. NLCIL –
CSR the programme of “Create Awareness on Swachh Bharath Mission” was inaugurated in
the presence of Shri Dhandapani, District Collector, Cuddalore senior officials of NLCIL, Staff
in coordination with NGOs NBDA, AVBD, RKSS, PSG and WIPS at Silver Beach Cuddalore.
In this event around 600 Nos, of Volunteers and the public participate. A lecture was given
by District Collector highlighting the importance of Swachh Bharat. A Mini Marathon
(Around 2 KM) and Mob dance were conducted by all volunteers to create awareness on
SWACHH BHARAT which was flagged off by District collector Cuddalore. Plastics and
garbage`s were cleared from sea shore area & mass Cleaning carried out. Officials of the
program administered the pledge on “Clean India” to the public and Volunteers.

As part of Swachhta Pakhwada NLCIL employees planted more than 7600

Innovative Initiatives like ‘Mob Dance’ in Public Junctions gained more
attention in commuters towards the importance of Swachh Bharath. As well
as, Green Haat initiative added more advantage to the Clean India campaign.
