Principals Message: Term 3, Week 4
Well done to all the students who participated in our athletics carnival on Tuesday. It was awesome to see the colour and ‘have a go’ attitudes out on the oval. Thank you to the parents and carers who turned up to support our athletes, it is much appreciated. Also, a BIG thank you to Mrs Crunden for organising the day and all of our staff for running an event. It was an excellent day! Principal appointment – After speaking with Murray Ingram (School Council President) he has assured me that the school community will be informed of who the ongoing Principal will be at our wonderful school. Murray declared all will be revealed sometime before the end of this term. Parent Opinion Survey – Thank you to all the families who have already completed the Parent Opinion Survey. It closes this Sunday 11th August. I encourage all families to complete the survey as it provides us with valuable feedback on how to improve our entire school. All families received an email from ORIMA with an attached link. Roll out the red carpet – Next Monday we have a special guest visiting our school to talk to the Grade 5/6s about their unit on Government. The Mayor for East Gippsland – Natalie O’Connell will be spending time with our students discussing her learning journey and path to becoming the mayor. The students have started working on questions to quiz Natalie and confirm their new government knowledge.
*Grade 3 will be performing at this Monday’s assembly – maybe something German?*
Have fun,

BOOK FAIR IS COMING TO OUR SCHOOL 19th – 23rd AUGUST
The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) will announce the winners of their shortlisted books on Friday 16th of
August and the following week sees us celebrate Book Week and the value of reading with a Book Fair and Dress-Up
Day.
Last year we were unable to host a book fair due to limited space during the construction phase so this year we will
make up for that by holding the book fair in the new learning centre. Students will have the opportunity to see the
selection of books and list their favourite book choices the week before the book fair opens. We encourage the children
to list three items but explain that they may only be able to purchase one or two of their favourites and not necessarily
all of them.
We receive a wide range of books to choose from but usually there is only three of each book sent to us and we are
able to sell two and hold the third book as a display item which means that sometimes the students may pay for a
book and have to wait for it to be ordered in. This is a concept which is a little daunting for the younger students to
grasp but we do our best to explain and reassure. I also encourage the children to ask before they raid their money
boxes!
There are also some sale items which are ‘once only offers’ so once snatched up are no longer
available to other students. These are just some of the pitfalls for the unwary but somehow
we all manage to negotiate our way through it. It’s rewarding to see the children experience
the handling of money, adding up, wheeling and dealing and rejoicing in their purchases.
A flyer will be sent home with the newsletter dated 15th August and it will have details regarding online purchases
which can be made prior to the opening of the book fair and collected the following week depending on availability.
The book fair will be open during lunch time from Tuesday 20th August to Friday 23rd at 1:15 pm until 1:45pm. Parents
are welcome to attend though we are yet do decide on time due to adminbeing short staffed. The school receives a
percentage of sales in books from Scholastic and that enables us to select a range of books for the school’s library
which is most welcome. We thank you for your valuable support.
Note: The August edition of Book Club (issue 6) will not be available.
Dress-Up Day on Friday 23rd August is a lovely way to wind up Book Week celebrations and we look forward to seeing
the students dressed up as their favourite book characters. Lindenow Primary School students have wonderful
imaginations and over the years have come up with some inspiring costumes. We will have a 9 am parade and hope
to see all the students participate and enjoy the day. Parents welcome.
After the parade, students will form groups and spend the day in varied activities designed around some of the 2019
CBCA shortlisted books. Hopefully, some of their creativity will be on display in the weeks to come.

Lindenow’s 2019 School Athletics Carnival was a great success this year. We had fantastic participation, with only 10
of your 144 students absent on Tuesday. Everyone did an outstanding job being resilience and challenging themselves
to be the best they could be throughout their eight events. The carnival concluded with a very exciting House Relay,
which saw all of our Grade Six students running faster than Mrs Crunden has ever seem them run before. A magnificent
sight!
It was wonderful to see 52 students run in the 800m lunchtime event on Wednesday. Everyone was talking about sore
and tired bodies, and it was an outstanding effort for the 5-8 year olds to run one lap and 9-12 year olds to run two
laps of the oval. This also earned more valuable house points… a super effort. Three more students made it to the +21
list after this event.
The following students will be presented with a +21 points ribbon at school assembly on Monday. We will also be
announcing the house that achieved the greatest number of house points. Participating in eight (or nine) events earned
each student at least 8 or 9 house points… it was a very close result this year!!!
+21 Congratulations to:
Wuk Wuk – Henry G, Skylah C, Kerryn, Darcy M, Ruby F, Liam, Ayla, Rebekah and Adam
Calulu – Hayley, Harry S, Lucy, Cooper, Kade M, Kody H and Georgia
Walpa – Charlotte, Jack K, Laura, Ruby D and Mia W
Woodglen – Chloe S.
I would like to thank the staff and all of our helpers. A special mention to Shannae and Lincoln who had injuries that
prevented them for taking part in most of their events, however they were wonderful helpers on high jump and long
jump. Also to Leah Simpson for helping with the line marking and anyone who helped pack up at the end of the day.
Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
The District Athletics event is on the 26th August at Howitt Park. Notes will be coming home next week for all students
who have qualified and wish to compete at this level.
