interactionsaretimeless.”(NewRochelle,NY—November9,2017)…Childrenplayinginthestreet,cooledbythesprayofafirehydrant;anelderlymaninreposeinhisrockingchair,andthecolorfullightsofTimesSquare—photosthatdepictthediversityofexperiencesofpeoplelivinginNewYorkCity—arethesubjectofadramaticnewexhibitionatUnitedHebrewofNewRochelle’sLazarusGallery.Titled“NewYorkStateofMind,”thisshowfeatures45photographicworksbytheaward-winningphotographer,EnidAlvarez,aformerNewYorkDailyNewsphotographer,andthedaughterofacurrentUnitedHebrewresident.AreceptionwiththeartistwillbeheldSunday,November12from3–4:30p.m.inthegallery,locatedat391PelhamRoad,NewRochelle.Thereceptionisfreeandopentothepublic.AmongtheimagesondisplayaredogsfrolickinginaManhattandogpark;childrenjumpingropeatamusicfestivalinBrooklyn;amanrollingcigarsintheBronx;alittlegirlonaplaygroundswinginQueens,andneighborsdancingtogetheratnightinEastHarlem.AccordingtoRitaMabli,presidentandCEOofUnitedHebrew,“Whenyouseetheserichphotographs,youmayflashbacktothesimplerdaysofyourchildhood,remembertheexcitementofyourfirstvisittoNewYorkCity,orfeellookbackonyourlife’sexperiences.Therichdiversityoftheseimagesofferscommongroundforourresidentsandtheirfamiliestoreflect,feelnostalgicandfeelconnectedtoeachother.”AmongtheworksisaphotographofchildreninSpanishHarlemcaughtinthesprayofafirehydrant,anaward-winningimagecapturedbyAlvarezwhilethePuertoRican116thStreetFestivalwastakingplaceafewblocksaway.Afterphotographingtheevent,shehappeneduponthesceneandcaptureditsjubilantmoodwithhercamera.Shesaysitofferedanopportunityto“gobacktoherroots,”andrevisitmemoriesshehadofgrowingupintheSouthBronx.“Simplepleasureslikecoolingoffonahotsummer’sdaywereallwehad,”saysAlvarez.“Thisphotocapturesthefeelingofanurbanneighborhoodandtheplayfulnessofchildhood.”Collectively,
