Need for a Summer Reading Program
• If students do not practice reading skills during the summer they can lose those skills
• Learners perform better on reading tests the next school year
Goals of Ready, Set, Read!
• Build students’ reading confidence and motivation to read
• Increase reading skills through techniques implemented throughout the previous school year
• Encourage parents and guardians to become involved with their children’s reading at home
• Help students become regular library users by creating an atmosphere that promotes reading and life long learning
• Improve students’ PSSA reading scores
Participants
• Read 180• Language!• Reading Prep• 163 students
targeted – 29 participants enrolled
Student Groups
• Divided into 3 groups• Placement dependent
on reading level• Red, Level, and Green
The Schedule
• Every Tuesday and Thursday• June 7th – July 19th
