MEMORANDUM TO: NFPA Correlating Committee on Signaling Systems for the Protection of Life and Property
FROM: Jenny Depew, Administrator, Technical Projects
DATE: January 12, 2015
SUBJ: NFPA 72 Proposed TIA No. 1163 Circulation of CC Ballots ____________________________________________________________________________
The preliminary ballot results of the CC balloting on proposed TIA No. 1163 are as follows: 20 Eligible to Vote 6 Not Returned (Aiken, Fannin, Fiore, Larrimer, Norton, Valois) Correlation Issues: Emergency Nature: 0 Abstentions 0 Abstentions 9 Agree (w/comment: Boswell) 5 Agree (w/comment: Black, Humm, Smith) 5 Disagree (Berezowski, Humm, Mundy, Nielson,
Van Keuren) 9 Disagree (Berezowski, Boswell, Fraser,
Grill, Mundy, Parrish, Reiswig, Schifiliti, Van Keuren)
There are two criteria necessary to pass ballot [(1) affirmative ¾ vote and (2) simple majority] with both questions needing to pass ballot in order to recommend that the Standards Council issues this TIA.
(1) The number of affirmative votes needed is 11.
(20 eligible to vote - 6 not returned - 0 abstentions = 14 × 0.75 = 10.5= 11)
(2) In all cases, an affirmative vote of at least a simple majority of the total membership eligible to vote is required. This is the calculation for simple majority:
[20 eligible ÷ 2 = 10 + 1 = (11)]
Based on the responses received to date, the preliminary results indicate this TIA IS NOT passing ballot. Explanation of votes received from principal member’s are attached for your review. Ballots received from alternate members are not included, unless the ballot from the principal member was not received. If you wish to change your vote, please do so no later than Friday, January 16, 2015. Those who have not returned their ballot may do so now. Ballots or changes may be submitted to Jenny Depew via email to jdepew@nfpa.org or fax to 617-770-0700. If you do not wish to change your vote, no response is necessary. Attachments
