I N T R O D U C T I O N

Theologians tell us that people pray as the they

believe, but people also believe as they pray. A

famous prayer called the "Jesus Prayer" is a great

example of both the believer and pray-er expressing

his or her faith. Each word in the Jesus Prayer

conveys profound meaning: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son

of God, have mercy on me, a sinner." The following

slides will analyze the important words of the prayer

more deeply.

• It means "God Saves” or “Yahweh is Salvation”

• It reveals the mission Jesus accomplished for us

• It is a late form of the Hebrew name Joshua

(Yehoshua)

• The name "Jesus" shows that the very name of

God is present in the person that will save us

from our sins and ultimately from death.
