Belafonte

My mom,my niece and me with our driver and local guide, Eric.

I am trying hard to

defend myself against the mosquitoes'

attack!

An amazing show : a huge herd of gnu (wildebeest )marching towards the water to drink! Thousands of them!

A buffalo with some very loyal friends who

follow him wherever he goes-

these are the Buffalo birds which

perch upon buffaloes, in search of parasites.

This is a very good co-operation–

the bird gets its food and the buffalo

gets rid of the parasites.

We arrived at theWe arrived at the lodge – VOYAGER SAFARI lodge – VOYAGER SAFARI LODGELODGE – –

“Dancing road “

Why “ dancing road “? On this “ road “ you have the feeling

that your brain is dancing !

There were about 2 – 3 meters betweenme and HIM, the King!

The door next to me was not closed well, so .…without giving it a second thought, I

opened thedoor of the car and slammed it!

Eric, the driver was shocked, the lion slowly raised his head ,looked at us

as if asking:

“ who had the courage to disturb me ? “The moment when he raised his head was

magical !I was overwhelmed!

Visiting the Masai Mara

We were welcomed by women who were singing and dancing. They invited us to join,so my mom and me found ourselves very quicky

among them,dancing with them,laughing with them,having fun.

A Masai with feathers hugged me and wanted to have a photo with me! The feathers tickled my face which made me laugh!

We are saying “ Goog Bye “ to MAMMA SAFI and the other members of the

tribe. It was a special experience for us!

I went to the toilet and suddenly I heard Elvis Presley singing

“ kiss me quick because I love you so ….” !

The sun was slowly setting down at lake andreservation Nakuru.

The sky and the lake got an amazing colour– gray and dark blue and on this background

we could see the pink flamingoes , the whitepelicans in the water and in the sky

and a few marabous busy cleaning the beachand the water!

For me this was like a scene taken from a dream !

The flamingo, living on hot volcanic lakes,

recalls the ancient Phoenix myth.

Found in many cultures, this story describes an immortal

bird who was consumed by flames,

then rose from the ashes. The word "flamingo" is also

associated with fire: it derives from "flamenco,

" from Spanish through Latin, a word that has its root in

"flaming." But where do flamingoes come

by the blazing color for which they

are named? “

They eat spirulina !

termites

Whistling-thorn acacias The paired thorns are

actually spines, modified leaves that serve as

protection against herbivore animals .

One in every five pairs of spines is swollen at the base into a globe that serves as a nest for ants which protect the trees. How? They feel

the vibrations when an animal touches the leaves of the tree and they sting his

tongue,nose,lips.OUCHHHHH !

Because the ants make holes into the swollen base, the structure whistles in the

wind.

We arrived at Nanyuki ! The city is situated on the Equator at 1948 m` altitudine above sea level! Later we heard and saw an experiment of the “Coriolis effect“ .

Gustave Gaspard Coriolis 1792 – 1843.

In physics, the Coriolis effect is an apparent deflection of moving objects when they are viewed from a rotating

reference frame. Moving objects on the surface of the Earth experience a Coriolis force, and appear to veer to the right in

the northern hemisphere, and to the left in the southern. When water flows down the sink it swirls to the right in the

Northern Hemisphere, to the left in the Southern Hemisphere and it flows right down at the Equator.( Wikipedia)Using“hi – tech device“ –glass, a funnel and a match this effect was demonstrated to us by one of the locals:he placed the funnel in the bottle, poured water in it and

put the match on the water. We went 20 meters to the North and saw how the match moved clockwise. Then we went

20 meters to the South and the match moved anticlockwise. When we were at the “equator", the match did not move while the water was flowing through the funnel into the glass!

At a show in Nairobi

The sun set is something special !

'I guess I'd have to say that the most exciting place I've ever been to is Africa.

Because it's another world there. It's not just the cultures and the people.

That's great....but it's the air.... the colors from dawn to dusk,

and there's something tangible about the whole thing.

The cohabitation of man and beast, and beast and beast - who'll survive and who won't.

There's no judgment about it either you know. There's no imposed morality. It's just the way it is.

It's just beautiful really. There's nothing like it. It's a voyeur's paradise.'
