Canarian Music

Music Music is very important in our region. We

have typical songs and typical instruments that belong to our folklore.

Little by little, we will present them to you. I hope you like them.

Typical instruments

El Timple El Timple is a traditional

Spanish plucked string instrument of the Canary Islands.

La guitarra (The guitar)

The classical guitar —is a 6-stringed plucked string instrument from the family of instruments called chordophones.

It is very tipical in the Canarian folklore

La Bandurria

The bandurria is a plectrum plucked chordophone from Spain.

There are a lot of musicians in the Canary Islands who play the bandurria.

The Gomero tambourine

This tambourine is said to have a prehispanic origin. It was used before the Castilian conquest.

It is used mainly in religious and pagans parades, specially in La Gomera

Las chácaras

It is made of bones or wood.

It has a very characteristic sound.

It is typical of La Gomera and El Hierro.

Caracola

It is a wind instrument. It is made with the shell of

big snail. It is mainly used in

coastal places. It was used in the past to

make people know that the fishermen had fresh fish to be sold.

The isas

The isas, the folksongs of Malaga and the folías constitute the substratum of the music and traditional dance of Canaries:- The Isa is the happy singing of the canary that comes from the Aragonese jot.

La Malagueña and the Folia

-The folksong of Malaga - his name reveals his Andalusian origin - is the melodic expression of the feeling
