COMMUNITY HELPERS
INTRODUCTION
In this lesson, students will learn about people who have different types of jobs in our community. Art will also be integrated into the lesson when they draw a picture of the Community Helper they have chosen to write about.
TASK
Make a poster with a drawing of a Community Helper
The poster should include the name of the Community Helper
Attach a drawing of a map of where the Community Helper is located
Write a paragraph explaining what type of service is provided in our community.
PROCESS Activity 1: Teacher will read the book,
Community Helpers From A-Z Students will then answer questions to check
for understanding. What is a community? What is a community helper? Why is their job important for the
community? Students will view pictures and information
on community helpers.

Poster includes most of required elements. Labels are missing making viewing hard

Poster includes all required elements including additional information in an orderly fashion
The poster is attractive in terms of design and layout with most of the components included
The poster design and layout is exceptionally attractive while only presenting one component
Poster is messy and poorly designed
CONCLUSION
Students will share their Poster with drawing and map, then explain what their community helpers job is, why they picked them and where in our community are they located.
