Year 6 Induction Ceremony
Sun Safety Dear Students, Parents/Caregivers and Friends, As this newsletter is being produced, our current Year 6 students are being inducted as the Seniors for 2019. Congratulations to all students but especially to the Leaders and Student Council members: School Captains – Harrison Corr and Benjamin Walker Vice Captains – Henry Ballentine and Saige Bellert Oxley House Captains – Cooper Berndsen and Tom Mactaggart Sturt House Captains – Makalah Hewitt and Harry Simmonds Flinders House Captains – Sam Gassman and Noah West Student Council President – Summer Krebs Secretary – Alice Theodore Treasurer – Heidi Swaffer-Selff Publicity Officer – Heidi Hutchinson Fundraising Officers – Madelyn Davidson and Jill Werth A huge thank you to Miss Reynolds, Miss Feddersen, Mrs Lang and Mrs Lucht for organising the induction
ceremony. We are all looking forward to working with our ‘seniors’ for 2019. Sporting activities have started with Mr Chantler having an enthusiastic group of cricketers preparing for the Gala Day at Moura SS on Friday 15 March. And then there is our school cross country on Wednesday 27 March. Some of the really keen 9-12 year old runners started some extra training with Mr Chantler before school last Thursday. This will happen every Thursday morning. See Mr Chantler for a permission note about this. Of course, physical activity continues to be monitored in relation to the excessive heat being experienced. Generally students have been very happy to restrict and modify lunch activities but of course there are those few who want to just keep running and running. Needless to say that our air-conditioners are getting a heavy workout! Last Friday we had Mr Thomas Wong, a medical student currently based at our local surgery, teach students about Sun Safety. Tom was a fantastic teacher with much knowledge about sun safety who could answer any question thrown at him by our students. A huge thank you to Tom for his presentations as they reinforced items in our school Sun Safe Policy about wearing hats and other appropriate clothing, and applying sun screen. Thank you, Tom! A big thank you to Michelle Lang for leading Parade for the last couple of weeks, and again next week as I head to the State Principals’ Conference in Brisbane. My turn again to do Parade in Week 6!

STATIONERY REQUIREMENTS
There are still some children who have not got all their stationery items yet which is making it difficult for them to focus on learning. Please follow up with getting the outstanding items to school as soon as possible.
ARRIVAL TIME AT SCHOOL
If children arrive before 8:30 am, they are to sit and wait quietly in the bus line area until the 8:30 am bell when they are free to play quiet games. This includes Prep students who come on buses or are not accompanied by a parent/caregiver. Prep students are not to be dropped at the Prep classrooms before 8:30 to be left in the care of other parents waiting there with their own children.
Students are not to stop at the Skate Park for a play before school. Safety is our first priority.
RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR PLAN FOR STUDENTS
School Wide Expectations Teaching Matrix: Attached to the newsletter today is the matrix of expected behaviours in various locations around the school. The behaviours are clustered under the 4B headings.
STUDENT ABSENCES – EVERY DAY COUNTS
Being at school every day counts, with one day absent each week quickly adding up to two months of missed lessons in a year. Research shows that students who have a good attendance record are more likely to achieve high results.
Unless your child is ill, it is expected that your child will be at school learning every day of the school year. More information on the importance of regular school attendance is available at http://education.qld.gov.au/everydaycounts/index.html

Picking up children early
from school…. Just a reminder the best times to pick
up your child/ren is when we have our
breaks and NOT during school time as
they are busy learning and sometimes it
makes it difficult when they are doing
other activities that are away from their
class rooms. Best times for pick-ups are
11am, 12pm, 1.30pm or 2pm.
Your assistance with this is greatly
appreciated.
Please remind your children, whether
they are walking, riding or scooting, to
come directly to school with no detours
via the Skate Park.
