School Improvement Agenda – 2017 1. Reading comprehension
2. Writing skills
Term 3, 2017 is off to a great start. Our students started
the term full of enthusiasm and vigour indicating the holiday
break was good for them. As usual they are full of stories
about their adventures and exploits during the break.
Our P&C have been working very hard over the past couple
of months to get our first ‘Up the Creek Festival 2017’ up and
running. There have been many families and individuals
working behind the scenes to plan for this big event. The
P&C have supported this initiative so that our school
community can focus on building one large event each year
to raise as many funds as possible. The P&C executive will
be contacting families over the next couple of weeks to seek
volunteers to help on the day. Your support to provide as
little as one hour to several hours will be a great help.
A group of year 4 and 5 students recently visited the
University of Queensland, St Lucia campus as part of the
Education Queensland’s IMPACT online learning Big Day
Out. These students participated in two online learning
activities in term 1 & 2 this year for literacy and numeracy.
This was a culminating activity which allowed our 6 students
participate with over 500 students from other State Schools
in activities which gave them experience of university life for
a day. Our students were in a group with students from
Caboolture East State School. Mount Whitestone students
also participated in the day so they will be able to compare
notes about their experiences at UQ – Big Day Out 2017.
UQ - Global Change Institute with our guide Nobel.
Global Change Institute Sustainable Building is a $32 million
state-of-the-art building which opened in 2013. It employs
sustainable design, construction and operating practices.
The students toured the facilities and got to find out how the
building controls its own environment through smart
technology and sensing climate controls.

Gatton Show 2017
Mount Whitestone State School were invited to sing the
National Anthem at this year’s Gatton Show and invited our
school to join them. It was a great evening with most of our
students participating. Thank you to all the families who
were able to make it on the night.

Wow! Champion Kade for winning his computer game
challenge against staff - Mrs Maguire.
Mrs Maguire commented on Kade’s good sportsmanship
and helping behaviours. Even though he was more skilled in
the game, he stopped to show Mrs Maguire how she could
do better at different skill levels.
