Login Here

Your login is the same password as your login for your desktop at school.

Under quick navigation choose the program you are teaching.

Choose manage courses here

Note that you must have permission granted by someone who has rights in your department or by computer services.

You must be given rights as a course creator to make a course. Computer services can give you this right, as can I.

While creating a course you can hide it your course so that no one can see it until you want them to.

This is what it will look like when you first create a course. This is the basic template that can then be edited.

You have to turn on editing to make changes.

Add a block helps you customize your dashboard

The blocks that I have been very helpful are assignments and quizzes. If you use quizzes here, they are self marking.

Duplicating a course is done in Administration – you must backup your course and then restore it.

You can select what you want from the course by checking the boxes. Usually by backing up a course you would just jump to the final step. If you are archiving a class you would definitely want to jump to the final step and then download your course that to include the students.

You can switch your role to a student to see what they can see.

Do the same as you would for adding an assignment, you can add a quiz. This is a bit more complex, the quiz needs to be populated elsewhere. This can be discussed but is likely for the next PD session. No matter what you are doing, make sure to save at the bottom of every page.

Recap-Features that may be of interest

• Attendance block

• Sharing Cart

• Assignments

• Quizzes

The Sharing Cart is a very handy feature…

Enrolling Students

Students can enrol in your class or you can enrol them in your class. I recommend that they enrol themselves…this is where permission is given to teachers as well

Marking in Moodle – by marking in Moodle, your students get immediate feedback. If you set up your gradebook, you will be able to transfer your marks easily to Omnivox. One day the hope is that teachers will be able to use either Moodle or Omnivox.

Creating assignments and Quizzes…

Submission types are important. I recommend using the online text for easy marking.

Recommendations

• Make sure to take the time to walk through Moodle with your students to show them how to enroll and how to navigate, see assignments and login into Moodle. You can also show them how to set up open up their webmail, this is where they receive confirmation of Moodle activity.

• Jump in and give it a try, even if you aren’t completely confident with using Moodle, it takes time to learn and this will only happen if you go for it. Tell your students that you are learning and that they will need to be patient.

• Marking directly on Moodle will help everyone involved. Instant student feedback and your marking is already complete.
