7th-grade FAC Class
The 7th grade students in Family & Consumer Science classes recently com-
pleted a sewing project. The students created a personalized drawstring tote-
bag that is fully lined and can be reversible. We had lots of great moms and
grandmas who volunteered to help during the unit. The students are very
proud of their creations!

Wreaths Across America at Rose Hill Cemetery
A sunny, cool and windy Saturday, December 16, made for a successful
Wreaths Across America at Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, Indiana. The
ceremony, which coincides with the ceremony at Arlington Cemetery and oth-
er cemeteries around the country and world, began at 11:00 AM. The Ameri-
can Legion’s Color Guard presented the colors, their Honor Guard placed
wreaths around a flag pole to honor a fallen or missing veterans for each
branch of service followed by a 21 gun salute. Once the ceremony concluded
with Taps and the retiring of the colors, volunteers stepped up to help lay over
600 wreaths on veterans’ graves.
About 75 CNMS students, friends, and families joined other community
groups and families to lay wreaths. Volunteers were instructed to take a list of
names within the different wards of the cemetery, find the marked gravestone,
and place a beautiful, live balsam wreath with red bow in front of the grave.
Some graves were easy to find, but others were more difficult.
The CNMS generationOn club would like to thank everyone who donated over
100 wreaths and took the time to lay wreaths on Saturday. It was a wonderful
day to honor our veterans while reflecting and celebrating our nation and free-
dom. We plan to join with Rose Hill next year and every year they participate
in Wreaths Across America.

The CNMS generationOn Club met and exceeded the initial goal of $20,000. We have enough funding to send books to
our first group of children for two to three years. We will continue to spread the word about the benefits of early literacy
and build partnerships with Warrick County organizations and businesses and other Warrick County schools to build a
community of readers for years to come.

And the tradition continues…
After writing a “character counts” bear story, students in the 6th-grade headed off to Eastland Mall
in Evansville to build stuffed bears to accompany their work. Students raised funds through a
dodge ball tournament and other means to purchase 340 bears to go with their stories. The bears
and stories were donated to needy community children at Luca’s Place, 4 C’s, Tri-Cap Headstart in
Newburgh and Boonville, and the WCSC Preschool for the holiday. This curriculum-connect ser-
vice learning project began at Castle North in 2009 and has been spearheaded ever since by Mrs.
Short. This project reminds all that the best gifts are those given!
Below are only a few pictures taken at the Build-A-Bear in Eastland Mall. To see more check out
our Facebook page under Castle North.
