LOW VOLTAGE POWER SUPPLY

Answers from Keith
SRIB= sounding rocket interface board, which Keith is making
PEM= polarimeter electronics box (3 outputs)
A=analog, D=digital for outputs (not AC/DC!)
Isolated DC-DC converters are the best option, since linear regulators dissipate power as heat
The PCB should be about 6”x12” or smaller
Copper heat sinks work well in space due to conduction
More Questions for Keith
Should ground for everything be chassis ground, or will isolated regulator outputs have floating ground?
Have you decided on 3-line serial vs. I2C? Should all components specifically say “isolated?” We
chose them as if they did. What is the factor of safety for currents? Can we use an op amp buffer for the DAC output rather
than using variable regulators? Non-linear isolated variable regulators with enough current are hard to find.
How important are rippling tolerances? What are your priorities as far as trade-offs go with
components? (List of part numbers we want to run by him)
