Front Cover Image

For my front cover image I looked at other magazines which featured artists that are similar to the artist I was trying to create, such as Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus, as they are known as country artists. A lot of these covers involved the artist holding a guitar, so I decided that my cover image should have a guitar in it. This also makes it more obvious that it is a country/folk magazine, as acoustic guitars are quite often associated with this style. I also chose what she should wear carefully and how her hair should be, as the artists on the covers tend to wear quite neutral colours, which is why I decided to have her in quite a plain neutral coloured dress. I also chose to have her hair curled for the same reason, and I think people tend to link female country stars with having curly hair, as singers such as Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift tend to have curly hair.

For this image I have kept with the same ideas for her hairstyle and clothes, by keeping it all quite neutral. I took inspiration from Taylor Swift’s music video for her song ‘Safe and Sound’. I also thought that taking the images outside would also fit well with the country genre, as it is quite a natural style genre, by not using any synthetic sounds, which people may associate with being outside.

For this image, I was trying to show something to represent a country-style festival. I looked at images of country/folk bands performing live such as, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, and the Civil Wars. Since my main feature artist is a solo teenage female artist, I thought I should include something to contrast it by having an older band, which also had a male in. This contrast to my main artist still works with the genre though, as the band I have chosen to feature are similar to the bands I took inspiration from, as they are older, mostly male, but still have a lead female singer. I also made sure that the artist was playing an acoustic guitar, as acoustic guitars are usually linked with my chosen genre more than electric guitars.
