Modernising Motorway Lighting
How to overcome the challenges of upgrading to LED
Scott PengellyINDO Lighting
4.2.5 GlareNOTE Disability glare reduces the contrast between objects and their background so that their visibility is decreased.
In traffic route lighting, the parameter threshold increment (TI) is used as a measure of disability glare, and maximum values of this parameter are set for each ME lighting class in BS EN 13201-2:2003 and M lighting class in CIE 115:2010 [N1]….
For residential and subsidiary roads, intensity limits should be used to control direct glare from luminaires as recommended in 7.2.1.
Summary
• Lighting and application considerations
• Colour Temperature• Consider impact / comfort / wildlife
• Glare• Application of Threshold Increment (TI)
• Lighting Level• Use standards to minimise lighting levels
• ConnectivityTools to help smarter decision making
• Weight / Windage• Lighter/Lower = Better
Thank you…
