MOBILIZING INVESTMENTCATALYZING DEVELOPMENT
DIASPORA ENGAGEMENT AND PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP
Levels of exclusivity
• Closed system for senior members. By invitation only. Small number of participants(Global Scot)
• Open system for professionals who are in the early stages of their careers(Young Professionals Association)
• Social network type system. Purely opt-in. User-generated content, user-managed interaction(Facebook)
Challenges
• Lack of sufficient opportunities for meaningful engagement
• Resource-intensive follow-up and relationship management
• Overexposure of network members
Lessons learned
• To make the pace of development of the network dependent on the rate at which one can generate tangible opportunities for engagement
• To develop a detailed business process and corresponding resource plan before building a system or contacting large numbers of potential network members
• To create a governance structure that can be trusted to responsibly manage the network based on different levels of exclusivity
