This slide show was created to help explain that eating isn't one decision, but hundreds of decisions. Many people can benefit from mindful eating because it helps people see opportunity, and actually think differently about food and eating. In this slide show, Megrette Fletcher, M.Ed, RD, CDE explores the 6-phases of eating.

The first phase is call the Non-eating phase.

That is the time when you are not eating.

Why? You are not hungry.

The thing is, people forget to check in with their hunger

and eat just because food is available.

That is one way we might eat mindlessly.

The next phase is…

Preparation Phase

That is the

gathering,

ordering,

planning and

cooking of a meal.

The PauseIt is a place to set you

INTENTION

for eating.

This tiny space, can offer so much

benefit.

It can be filled with silence,

a wish,

prayer or

gratitude.

During the mealThis is an opportunity to really

notice your

direct experience eating.

After Eating

The meal or snack is over.

Eating is done. There is no reason to eat at this time

because hunger has ended and fullness

is now present.
