MORE WAYS TO TARGET THE RECORDS
SEARCHED
INDEX RANGE
Fewer records examined, so file created more quickly
and fewer system resources used
For example:Range of barcode
numbers to target a particular branch
ADVANCED SEARCH
Can find data not easily found via Boolean
criteria
For example:Find misspelled
words
New review file and its basis can be different record
types
Attached Record Hopping
• Using a review file of bibs as the range, can create lists of one attached record type based on data from a different attached record type
• For example: You want to know what items have no price even though there are order records with prices
First, create a review file of BIBS, based on attached record data
Second, create another review file, storing the other attached
record type, using the first review file as the range input
Limit by Scope
• Database Maintenance Options - Create BOOLEAN lists: scope during range – N: Retrieve all records in the database, regardless of
their scope. – Y: Restrict the retrieved records to those within the
current login's scope. – A: Offer a checkbox allowing the user to select a
scoped or non-scoped results set. • Must be using a scoped login
Create Lists: Limit by scope
Input of Boolean criteria
Fewer conditions required

(default)– Wait for searches to complete – Prompt to wait for searches to complete (if
