The distance around the

outside of a shape is called the perimeter.

The perimeter of the shape is 8 + 8 + 6 + 6 = 16 + 12 = 28cm.

First we need to find the length of each side.

To find out the area inside the shape we cancount the squares.

Counting each square can take a long time. Does anyone know a quicker way?

To work out the number of squareswe multiply 6 by 8.
