Christmas 2017 7
Our Religious Education Ministry has a KIDS FOR CHRIST event every year. Children of all ages gather to decorate cookies and make Christmas cards. These cookies and cards are used in Respect Life Ministry’s CAROLING event, as parishioners visit several assisted living facilities. Our group entertained the residents and sang Christmas carols while handing out the cookies. It was an event for all ages!
8 Christmas 2017
Angels we have heard on high; Sweetly singing o’er the plains,And the mountains in reply, Echo back their joyous strains.
Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong?Say what may the tidings be. Which inspire your heav’nly song. Come to Bethlehem and see. Him whose birth the angels sing;Come, adore on bended knee, Christ the Lord, the newborn King.
See him in a manger laid, Whom the choirs of angels praise;Mary, Joseph, lend you aid, While our hearts in love we raise.
Silent Night Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright. Round yon virgin, mother and child, Holy Infant so tender and mild, Sleep in heavenly peace. Sleep in heavenly peace. Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight; Glories stream from heaven afar; Heav’nly hosts sing alleluia! Christ, the Savior is born! Christ, the Savior is born! Silent night, holy night! Son of God, love’s pure light. Radiant beams from thy holy face, with the dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus, Lord, at thy birth. Jesus, Lord, at thy birth.
Hark ! The Herald Angels Sing Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King! Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!” Joyful all you nations, rise; Join the triumph of the skies; With the angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem!”
Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”
Christ, by the highest heav’n adored; Christ, the ever-lasting Lord! Late in time behold him come, Offspring of the Virgin’s womb. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; Hair the incarnate Deity, Pleased as man with us to dwell, Jesus, our Emmanuel. Hail the heav’n born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all he brings, Ris’n with healing in his wings. Mild he lays his glory by, Born that we no more may die, Born to raise each child of earth, Born to give us second birth.
The First Nowell The first Nowell, the angel did say, Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields where they lay keeping their sheep, On a cold winter’s night that was so deep Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell! Born is the King of Israel. They looked up and saw a star Shining in the east beyond them far; And to the earth it gave great light, And so it continued both day and night. And by the light of that same star, Three wise men came from the country afar: To seek for a king was their intent, And to follow the star wherever it went. This star drew nigh to the northwest, O’er Bethlehem it took its rest; And there it did both stop and stay, Right over the place where Jesus lay. Then entered in those wise men three, Fall rev’rently upon their knee, And offered there in His presence, Their gold and myrrh and frankincense. The let us all with one accord, Sing praises to our heav’nly Lord, Who made the heav’ns and earth of naught, And with his blood our life has bought.
Joy to the world, the Lord is come!Let earth receive her king;Let ev’ry heart prepare him roomAnd heav’n and nature sing,And heav’n and nature sing, And heav’n, and heav’n and nature sing. Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns!Let us our songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains,Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy,Repeat, repeat the sounding joy. No more let sin and sorrow grow,Nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make his blessings flowFar as the curse is foundFar as the curse is found,Far as, far as the curse is found. He rules the world with truth and grace,And make the nations proveThe glories of this righteousness,And wonders of His love,And wonders of His love,And wonders, and wonders of His Love.
O Come, All Ye Faithful O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem; Come and behold him, born the King of angels O come, let us adore Him, O come , let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord! Sing , choirs of angels, sing in exultation, Sing, all ye citizens of heav’n above! Glory to God, all glory in the highest Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning, Jesus, to thee be all glory giv’n; Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing;

We praise You, we bless You, we adore You, we glorify You, We give You thanks for Your great glory, Lord God, Heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One; You alone are the Lord. You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God, the Father. Amen.

What Child Is This What Child is this, who laid to rest, on Mary’s lap is sleeping, Whom angels greet with anthems sweet, while shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing. Haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary.
Why lies he in such mean estate; where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear; for sinners here, the silent Word is pleading. So bring him incense, gold, and myrrh; come, peasant, king, to own him. The King of kings salvation brings; Let loving hearts enthrone him.
Away in a Manger Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay, The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.
The cattle are lowing; the baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes. I love you Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask you to stay Close by me forever, and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in your tender care, And fit us for heaven, to live with you there.

Blessing of a Christmas Manger or Nativity Scene
God of every nation and people, from the very beginning of creation you have made
manifest your love: when our need for a Savior was great you sent your Son to be
born of the Virgin Mary. To our lives he brings joy and peace, justice, mercy, and
love.
Lord, bless all who look upon this manger; may it remind us of the humble birth of
Jesus, and raise up our thoughts to him, who is God-with-us and
Savior of all, and who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.
(from the Book of Blessings)
We have three beautiful Nativity sets at Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi Parish. Visit the large set located in the church (our infant Jesus is pictured on the cover), a second one is located in the main hall in school and our lit
Nativity scene is located at the entrance of the school and parish offices.
Mitten Tree The SSFC Youth Ministry
collected mittens, hats, scarves and socks to be handed out to
those in need at The Lord’s Pan-
try annual Christmas Party.
Jesse Tree The third graders in school and
our Religious Education pro-gram designed ornaments that were blessed and then hung on our Jesse Tree in the narthex. The ornaments represent the
people, prophesies and events leading up to the birth of Jesus.
Blessing of a Christmas Tree (from the Book of Blessings) Holy Lord, we come with joy to celebrate the birth of your Son, who rescued us from the
darkness of sin by making the cross a tree of life and light. May this tree, arrayed in
splendor, remind us of the life-giving cross of Christ, that we may always rejoice in the
new life that shines in our hearts. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
