An exhibition covering the broad range from traditional horse games and sports with horses in the oriental

world to high-tech performances at Olympics and other international equestrian festivals has never been

staged before. Horse games and sports have a long lasting tradition in the East, which may explain the strong

bond between man and horse in this part of the world.

The oriental polo game was played nearly 2600 years ago and remained popular in this part of the world,

from which it expanded first to the East after the 16th century CE and spread to the whole Oriental world.

Other horse games like the djerid, the qabaq or the fantasia always had been connected to the skilfulness

of horse and rider. In the wide central Asian steppes various trapping games had been played like kökbüri or

baiga/buzkashi.

Some of these games are still being played to this day or have been revived again. They are complimented

by modern equestrian disciplines like show jumping, eventing, dressage and endurance, which have

surpassed the traditional games in popularity.

This exhibition is highlighting the old horse races and games tradition in the East to understand the

enthusiasm and engagement for modern Olympic horse sports.
