SIMPLE INJURY• Any injury which is not Grievous or Dangerous is a simple injury.

Grievous injury

Any of the following injuries are grievous:

1.Permanent privation of sight of either eye.

2.Permanent privation of olfaction of nose.

3.Permanent privation of hearing of either ear.

4. Permanent privation of speech by injuring tongue.

5. Mutilation of the breasts of female.

6. Emasculation.

7. Fracture of spine, bones of hands and feet or dislocation of their joints.

DANGEROUS INJURIES•Those injuries which cause imminent danger to life either by involvement of important organs or structures or extensive area of the body.

•Dangerous weapons/means include any instrument for shooting, stabbing or cutting or any instrument which used as a weapon of offence is likely to cause death.

All details of examination of the injured person, whether admitted or not, has to be recorded in the Accident Register.

An ideal injury report consists of the following parts –

(i) Preamble - For identification of the person and the date, time and place of examination and consent etc.

(ii) Body - 1. General examination 2. Details regarding the different injuries

on the victim.

(iii) Opinion – type of weapon, time of injury, severity eg. simple or grievous etc.

PROCEDURE OF INJURY REPORTING1. Consent for examination:

▫ from the person him/herself if he/she is of age of giving valid consent.

▫ If the person is unconscious the guardians or the attendants of the person should give the consent.

▫ In case of female patients a nurse or other female attendant should preferably be present during examination.

2. Identification of the person as regards to his Name, Age, Sex, address and two specific identification marks on the body.

3. Brief history about incidence: written as narrated by the victim as far as possible in the victims language.

5. Type of Injury: Simple/ Grievous/ Dangerous

6. Type of weapon that might have caused the injury:- Blunt/Sharp/Firearm

7. Name, Signature & Designation of the Doctor:
