4/15 Four labs and three laptop carts were utilized for four blocks.

GENERAL DATA COLLECTED

• The media center classes and labs operate on a flexible schedule. The schedule is emailed daily to the faculty. Teachers can schedule their classes months in advance.

• There are 12 desktop computers and 65 laptops on mobile carts in the media center.

• South Pointe High has about 1600 students.

• There is 1 media specialist and 1 media assistant.

• There are 91 teachers, 25 staff, 2 coordinators, 4 assistant principals, an athletic director and a head principal.

DATA COLLECTED ON APRIL 15, 2011

• On April 15 about 300 individual students visited the media center (not with a class). The majority came during their lunch time to see the Books A Million Fair and the Media Center’s Curriculum Fair.

• 138 classes visited the media center on April 15 and the total number of individuals (community etc.) visiting were 2760.

• 53 teachers visited the media center on April 15 (with and without classes).

• The media specialist taught one class on Friday April 15. This class had previously visited the media center on Thursday.

The number of items circulated on 4/15/2011

• 43 books were checked out that day.• 28 books on a cart were used by a class in

media center.• 86 books on carts were used by teachers

in their classrooms.

The number of individual student computer uses on 4/15

• 163 students used the media center’s desktops and laptops.

Information About The Books A Million Book Fair

• This event marked the first time Books A Million Book Store has held a book fair inside a school.

• The Rock Hill School District’s community, students, parents and teachers were invited to come to the fair through district-wide emails, school wide connect calls, and printed flyers.

• With the support of many, the Books A Million Book Fair was a success. Our business partners, administrators, parents, students, and teachers stated that they were pleased.

• The media center received a percentage of sales from the fair, which will be used to purchase new library materials for students.

• Our school’s and district’s literacy goals were achieved as a result of this fair.

Information About The Media Center’s Curriculum Fair

• All teachers contributed to the Media Center’s Curriculm fair by sharing a printed lesson and displaying samples of their students exemplary work.

• This year each teacher was required to video taped a lesson and present it to their administrators.

• The community, parents, students, and faculty were invited to come to the media center’s curriculum fair.

• The media specialist organized and assembled a book titled “Best Teaching Practices at South Pointe High 2011. ”

• The media specialist will present this information at a National Board for Professional Teachers Conference.

• The media specialist was encouraged by administrators to continue this event next year. The administrators presented her a kudo certificate for making learning engaging for the students at South Pointe High at April ‘s faculty meeting.

• Collaboration occurred and goals were achieved.
