Site + ContextBodrum
Bodrum is a Turkish port town in Mugla Province, in the southwestern Aegean Region of the country. It is located on the southern coast of Bodrum Peninsula, at a point that checks the entry into the Gulf of Gokova, and it faces the Greek island of Kos. Today, it is an international center of tourism and yachting.
Once an ancient city, which still bears traces of its archaic past, Bodrum has quickly and quitely become one of the premier leisure destinations in Turkey. With the scent of exclusivity in the air, Bodrum entices the rich and famous upscale alternative to its popular neighbours, Istanbul and Izmir.
Although a seasonal market, the city’s occupancy has increased over the years and many businesses and hotels are pushing for flights to the area. Furthermore, despite the looming impact of the credit crunch and the current world economic climate, the bulk of Bodrum’s business, much of which originates from domestic tourism, may not be impacted as much as other leisure destinations such as the USA and the Western Europe.
Bodrum is an upscale seaside resort, known as the ‘Saint Tropez’ of Turkey.

TransportationMilas-Bodrum International Airport
Officially named "Milas-Bodrum Airport", one of the busiest airports of the Aegean Region in Turkey, was opened to international traffic in 1997. It is located between the two important cities of ancient Caria named Milas (Milassos) and Bodrum (Halicarnassus) within the province of Mugla city. Having derived its name from the vast historical heritage of the two towns, the airport serves over two million people every year with one international and one domestic terminal. The history of Milas-Bodrum Airport stands back 01.04.1997 when it started operations in one building which is used as the international terminal at the moment. Since the construction of the international terminal in April 1998 it has served domestic and international air traffic with two different terminals. Due to the increasing passenger capacity, bids for a new international terminal building has been accepted on a build-operate-transfer model and the present international terminal will be used as domestic terminal after the completion of the construction.
Milas-Bodrum Airport is one of the twelve provincial airports of General Directorate of State Airports Authority of Turkish Ministry of Transport and Communication. It is open for scheduled and unscheduled international charter flights and domestic flights for 24 hours. The airport is 18km from Milas and 35km from Bodrum. Built on a total area of 4.139.000 m2, the airport consists of one international terminal with the capacity of 2 million passenger/year (16.500m2) and one domestic terminal with the capacity of 600.000 passenger/year (19.200 m2) and welcomes 2.600.000 passengers in total. There is a 3000x45 meter concrete runway, a 3000x30 meter taxiway and a 800x200 meter apron with the capacity of 28 aircraft at the airport.

Climate + Geographical DataBodrum
The weather in Bodrum combines the very best of the Mediterranean and the Aegean: mild winters, hot summers, extremely low humidity and over 300 days of sunshine a year. Serious sunbathers will enjoy non-stop hot sunshine between May and October, and over 12 hours of sunshine in the peak summer months. Summer weather in Bodrum is virtually rainless. Summer highs are often over 30º, though often tempered by breezes. Bodrum summers require a high-factor sun lotion. Bodrum weather is ideal for swimming, watersports and diving. Warm seas reach a very relaxing 25º in the peak summer months.
Winter holidays in Bodrum will probably see some rain, but plenty of winter sunshine and very agreeable temperatures by European standards. There is no snow, no frost, a good 5 or 6 hours of sunshine, and average temperatures as high as 18º. No winter at all really.
