THE WORD OF OUR LORD
READINGS FOR THE WEEK
Monday: Acts 12:1-11;Ps 34:2-9;2 Tm 4:6-18; Mt 16:13-19 Tuesday: Am 3:1-12; Ps 5:4b-8; Mt 8:23-27 Wednesday: Am 5:14-24; Ps 50:7-13, 16-17; Mt 8:28-34 Thursday: Am 7:10-17; Ps 19:8-11; Mt 9:1-8 Friday: Eph 2:19-22; Ps 117:1-2; Jn 20:24-29 Saturday: Am 9:11-15; Ps 85:9-14; Mt 9:14-17
TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading — Elisha promises a baby son to the hospitable woman (2 Kings 4:8-16a). Psalm — For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord (Psalm 89). Second Reading — We shall live in newness of life as Christ was raised from the dead (Romans 6:3-11). Gospel — Whoever gives but a cup of cold water to another will surely be rewarded (Ma hew 10:37-42).
CHRISTIAN HOSPITALITY
Day in and day out, we are required to make judgment calls informed by tough, durable, serviceable Chris an love. We do what we can do, and God takes no ce. God is in charge of rewards, and a glass of water will do when that is what we have to offer with a glad and open heart. Paul gives us a clear theology for the missionary work we do whenever anybody is close at hand. He reminds us that our work, our ministry is carried on in concert with Christ. We have been bap zed into his death and life. In any given moment both life and death are there, a kind of play of shadow and light. Some mes it’s difficult to tell where shadow leaves off and light begins. God will take care of that, too. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co

SAINT THOMAS
Saint Thomas was born a Jew and was called to be one of the twelve Apostles. His birth and death dates are unknown. He lived before the formal establishment of the Catholic Church and is recognized as the patron saint of architects.
He was a dedicated, but impetuous follower of Christ. When Jesus said He was returning to Judea to visit His sick friend Lazarus, Thomas immediately exhorted the other Apostles to accompany Him. The trip involved certain danger and possible death because of the moun ng hos lity of the authori es.
At the Last Supper, Christ told His disciples that He was going to prepare a place for them to which they also might come because they knew both the place and the way. Thomas pleaded that they did not understand and received the beau ful assurance that Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Saint Thomas is best known for his role in verifying the Resurrec on of his Master. Thomas' unwillingness to believe that the other Apostles had seen their risen Lord on the first Easter Sunday earned him the tle of "doub ng Thomas." Eight days later, on Christ's appari on, Thomas was gently rebuked for his skep cism and furnished with the evidence he had demanded - seeing in Christ's hands the point of the nails. A er verifying the wounds were true, St. Thomas became convinced of the reality of the Resurrec on and exclaimed, "My Lord and My God," thus making a public Profession of Faith in the Divinity of Jesus.
Tradi on says that, at the dispersal of the Apostles a er Pentecost, this saint was sent to evangelize to the Parthians, Medes and Persians. He ul mately reached India, carrying the Faith to the Malabar coast, which s ll boasts a large na ve popula on calling themselves "Chris ans of Saint Thomas." www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?

Par cipants are encouraged to wear African masks and/or costumes and to join in the dancing and drumming. This event was originally scheduled as a live event for October. Depending on the state of the pandemic in the Fall, we will follow the NC guidelines and decide whether it is safe to hold the live event. However, since we all need some fun right now, we have decided to hold a virtual event preview via Zoom. This will be a free event, but is limited to 100 par cipant screens. The Zoom event is scheduled for Monday, July 20th, at 7:00 PM. Reserva ons will be on a first come/first served basis, so we encourage you to sign up early. Reserva ons open Wednesday, July 1st, at 9:00 AM. Reserve your spot by emailing your name, address, phone number, and the email address that you will be using to join the event. Send this to: artstoendgenocide@gmail.com. We will send you a confirma on that you are on the guest list. You can begin planning your costume. To get you in the mood, we will send the recipe (adults over 21) to make an African cocktail. In mid July, we will send you the link to join the event. For ques ons, please call: Mitch Lewis, 252-670-1339. ATEG is a 501(c)3 with a mission to serve vulnerable children in developing countries. ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive
You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as You have already come, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
Lord, I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

It has a nice ring to it, but for posterity’s sake, I think we should revise the phrase, “life, liberty
