Pentecost Offering 2015 Sunday, May 24
Each year on Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate the arrival of the
Holy Spirit as a bringer of new life. The Pentecost Offering is
one of the four Special Offerings of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Gifts to the Pentecost Offering unite young people in Christ and inspire them to share their faith, ideas, and unique gifts with the church and the world.
Congregations keep 40% of collected funds, to support local youth-focused
programs they are most passionate about.
60% of collected funds should be remitted to the Presbyterian Mission
Agency to support the Young Adult Volunteers and Ministries with Youth
programs. These funds are also used for education and advocacy for chil-
dren at risk.

Delightful country has fallen to my lot; lovely indeed is my estate. Psalm 16:6 (Tanak,
Jewish Publication Society)
After several weeks of vacation (followed immediately by a board meeting at Lou-
isville Seminary and then the Central Presbyterian family retreat at Camp Pyoca),
its time for me to say a big thank you to the congregation and to Rev. Scott Paul-Bonham, our
faithful and gifted Parish Associate. Amanda and I were very busy traveling and visiting friends
and family during our time away. We went from Terre Haute, to southwestern Missouri, where
we visited with old friends. Over the next couple of days we drove through Arkansas and Ten-
nessee, to Birmingham, Alabama. There we stayed for a few days with my father. The highlight
of that time was his 90th birthday party, which was attended by more than 100 persons. Our son
Lee and his wife Jen came down from Washington, D.C., to help us celebrate, and of course it
was a real treat to see them. From Birmingham, we traveled to Thomasville, Georgia, and to
Palm Coast, Florida, where we visited Amandas cousins. Then we were off to see Rev. Dr. F.
Morgan Roberts and his wife Nora in Bradenton, Florida. Some of you know that Morgan has been a mentor to me in my career. I still enjoy getting his viewpoint on current issues, and I al-
ways come back from our conversations with a list of books I want to read. From the Tampa
area we traveled up toward the panhandle of Florida. We stayed overnight in Panama City Beach
and the next day drove the slow route through many of the white-sand beaches of northern
Florida, making it to Fairhope, Alabama, in time to attend the wedding of Katie Justiss, my first
cousin, once removed. After the reception, we drove on to Birmingham, spending another cou-
ple of nights with Dad before departing for Terre Haute.
As we drove along, we enjoyed seeing these various parts of our beautiful country. For the most
part, the weather was bright. Spring comes about a month sooner down there, so we enjoyed
the warm weather. Now, we have returned to enjoy another spring in Terre Haute. We are
thankful to God for our safe travels, for the beauty we saw along the way, for our friends and
family, and for the joy of seeing my father with his many friends in his 90th year. As the Psalmist
wrote, delightful country has fallen to my lot; lovely indeed is the place where I am.
Give blood. Save lives. Participate in our Spring blood drive at CPC. It is
scheduled for Thursday, May 21 from 2-7pm. We want to beat our rec-
ord of 18 pints collected and 25 overall donor attempts! We are also
looking for volunteers to help. Please contact Robin Danek
(rldanek@gmail.com) if you can assist for a couple of hours. Thanks!

The Pyoca Retreat selfie (Amanda Davis didnt squeeze in far enough)! Despite the rain,
seventeen CPC members brought the sunshine to Pyoca on April 25 & 26. The group rejoiced in the day and the Lord as they cleaned cabins in preparation for summer camp, shared meals, and enjoyed being together for fun and worship.

Happy Spring everyone! We are almost to the end of the school year. Its time to focus on
Youth Sunday and celebrating our graduates. Youth Sunday will take place on Sunday, May 10 (at
Centenary) and Sunday, May 17 (at Central). This is a collaborative celebration of our youth so
we ask that all youth participate in both services. Mark your calendars for these great worship ser-
vices.
The youth are looking forward to our mission trip to Buckhorn, Kentucky from July 16-19.
We will have a fundraiser for this mission trip after Youth Sunday worship on May 17. All are in-
vited to join us for this meal. Spaghetti with meat sauce or marinara, macaroni and cheese, gluten
free pasta, salad, breadsticks, and dessert will be served. A free will offering will be collected, but
we suggest a donation of $10 per adult and $5 for children. Parents, if your youth would like to
participate in the mission trip, please let Tiffany know by Sunday, May 3.
Summer is quickly approaching and we look forward to all the activities this season brings.
The youth will not have regular Sunday meetings. We will continue Sunday meetings through May
31 (see events below). Through the summer there will be several community service activities
planned for the youth. These activities may include serving breakfast at the 14th and Chestnut
Community Center, helping CODA, the Lighthouse Mission, and other local organizations. Dates
and times for these opportunities will be announced soon. It is a great way for our youth to earn
community service hours.
