Over $125,000 in Scholarships Awarded
Over the last four years
In 1985 the Maxwell Football Club establishedthe High School Scholarship fund
To honor and recognize scholar athletes that possess that unique balance of football prowess,
academic excellence and dedicated community service.
“To be the first recipient of the Maxwell Football Club High School Scholarship Award was an
incredible honor for me, because such a prestigious award means that you have set the standard
by which all others who follow will be measured. It also comes with a responsibility to always
represent the Maxwell Football Club with honor and distinction.
As a high school senior, standing on the dais that night in 1986 with one of my idols, Walter Payton,
and the quarterback from Iowa, Chuck Long was surreal. I marveled at how graceful and poised
both Payton and Long were both on and off the field and I looked forward to taking the next step
along my career and playing at the University of Pennsylvania. Playing at Franklin Field for a storied
program like the University of Pennsylvania only made my connection with the Maxwell Football
Club stronger as I met more Maxwell Football Club members who were standouts at Penn—Francis
“Reds” Bagnell, Anthony “Skip” Minisi, Chuck Bednarik, Coach George Munger and Coach Dan
Stafferi. The history and tradition of the Maxwell Football Club blended with the legacy of Penn
football and the Ivy League cemented my life long attachment to the club and Penn Football.
The greatest strength of the Maxwell Football Club is its members and their continued
commitment to excellence. Through the years, the club welcomed me back to all the awards
dinners, even when I was in law school in Pittsburgh. Subsequently, I was invited to join the Board
of Directors and help shape the future of the club, where I presently serve as Vice President for
Legal Affairs. Working with other Board Members and Officers, we strive to take the club to new
levels while always remembering and cherishing the rich history of the club. Through the years I
have had the pleasure of meeting many gridiron greats but have been more impressed by all of
those individuals I have met that make an impact and a difference in their individual communities
day in and day out. My affiliation with the Maxwell Football Club began in 1985 and it has
undoubtedly help shape and build me into the person I am today and the person I want to be
tomorrow and far into the future.”

“Winning the Maxwell Football Club High School Scholarship Award,
to this day is one the highlights of my football career.
What made the award most special was that it was not just a recognition of my achievements on
the field, but my achievements off the field as well. Being able to share the dais with the likes
of Peyton Manning, Barry Sanders, Charles Woodson, Lloyd Carr and Tony Dungy is an
experience I will treasure forever. The Maxwell Club honors all levels of football and
does a tremendous job of honoring those who, over the years, made the game what it is today.
It is truly an honor to be a part of the Maxwell Football Club family.”-Brett Gordon, LaSalle College HS, Villanova University,

In 2004 I had the honor of receiving the prestigious MaxwelllFootball Club High School Scholarship
Award for my efforts during my high school career Pennridge. Winning that award led to one of
the most memorable nights of my life. The opportunity to be honored along side of Peyton
Manning, Urban Meyer, and Andy Reid at the awards dinner was something I'll never forget. When
receiving the award that evening I did not fully understand what Jaws meant when he said I was
entering a fraternal brotherhood. Only now am I beginning to grasp the meaning of those words. Not
only do I have a opportunity to associate myself with some of the greatest names in football,
but I also have the opportunity to honor those who honored me. As an alumni of the club I also
have the privilege of being a current member of the Maxwell Football Club High School Awards
Committee. A position that I hold with great pride and gratitude. Needless to say being associated
with the MFC has propelled my desire for success in college, in business, and daily living.
I'm a proud member of the Maxwell Football Club and thankful for the impact it has had on
my life.
