Chapter Set-up

Each chapter begins with a chapter problem that connects math to the students’ world.

Ideas from the chapter problem recur in the Check Your Understanding sections throughout the chapter

and concludes at the end of the Practice Test.

The “Get Ready” Section“Get Ready” is a brief review of the skills that are important for the students to understand before beginning the new chapter.

The pink-edged sulphur butterfly can be found in Nova Scotia in bogs and wooded areas where blueberries grow. The average wingspan of the butterfly is 3.3 cm.

Marissa Walter hails from Halifax. She is an accomplished athlete who has won gold medals in the provincial sprint meets in the 100-m and 200-m events. In addition to being a great athlete, she is talented academically, musically, and socially.

Margaret MacLean helped to preserve Scottish culture in Nova Scotia by contributing over 45 songs to the Cape Breton Gaelic Folklore Centre.
