Do you think if you buy a new thing you will be happier?

Do you think it will make your life marvelous? Possessions and property dominate much people’s lives, and people are steadily brought

into a materialistic world. Materialism is the belief that only material things exist; and that

money, possessions, and physical comforts are more important than spiritual values

• Materialism in terms of consumership has to do with the strong desire to accumulate

possessions as a form of wealth. People who are considered materialistic tend to place

more importance on this acquisition of wealth and the status that comes with it over

other matters, such as spirituality and relationships. While materialism can be a

positive factor in the building of anyeconomy, excess expressions of this traitcan also lead to a great deal of damage to individuals as well as to the community.

noun 1. a person who is markedly more concerned with material things than with spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values.

2. an adherent of philosophical materialism.

-adjective 3. concerned with material things; materialistic.

4. of or pertaining to philosophical materialism or its adherents.

.

Materialism is basically caused by human being, and it is human being who has to solve his own problem even though it is not easy to deal with. Let's have a look at the causes, the

consequence, and the affordable of the socalled materialism.

The fast development of life is the first basic cause.

Technology is improved and modernized continuously, and technological achievements have been changing people’s life substantially.

Goods are various and even redundant. This gives people (consumers) endless choices and

arouses in them endless needs. In contrast, life becomes more and more

expensive, and money is essential for everything

Another cause of materialism is probably the confusion over “needs” and “wants”. People

often think and believe what they need is what they want, and vice versa.

This is not true though. “Needs” are goods or services that are required but limited. “Wants” are goods or services that are not necessary but

that we desire or wish for. For example, one needs clothes, but one may

not needs designed clothes; one needs food, but does not have to have steak or dessert.

.

Different beliefs about the universe lead to different behavior. With such belief,

people pushed themselves into materialism. Additionally, materialism

also results from an excess of pride, the need to show others that one is

successful or important. The materialist does not have an inward sense of peace and happiness and is dependent on the envy of others for a feeling of self-worth

people become materialist even when they are anti-materialist. Due to the need for money, people work

as much as they can. They earn some money and start buying things for which they have been

working. They spend the money they earn, and again there is a need for money, they continue to

work. They have money; they spend money buying new and expensive things. However, it does not stop

there as that is not all. The greediness of men is unlimited; they always want more and more .

people have to throw themselves into the factories or offices all the time. Therefore, the more they have, the more they want, and the more they want, the more they have to work to get what they want. As there is no time for

anything else but work, people start losing family, friends, and even themselves. They

become self-lost and the slave to money, but they may not recognize that they are “religious

followers” of materialism. People in general are stuck badly in this materialism process,

which is just like a vicious circle. Evidently, it is not easy to break down the chain.

Materialism causes immorality, which further leads to war, conflicts, and evils. Millions of people have been being killed in the past and recent

wars. Many nations fell into poverty and mortality just because of others’

bottomless material desire. Uncountable amount of people

become cruel and evil for the sake of money and power

Traditional moral qualities such as self-control, generosity and good manners are being

forgotten, leaving the place for materialism. In addition, materialism has negatively affected our

global environmentBecause of our quest for materialism, the global society ignores problems such as global warming. Humans are being self

destructive in a long term. We live in a world surrounded by and composed of matter.

there are affordable solutions. In the first , place people should pay , more attention to poetry

, , . novels songs and so on Once they enjoy these , kinds of Art they will easily find peace and

, happiness and are aware of the consequence ofmaterialism. , , For instance John Lennon Janet

, Jackson and many others artists call for peace ; through their songs or Leo Tolstoy criticizes the cruelty of war in his immortal novel War and

.Peace .

Besides, participating in community activities, cultural clubs, or cultural festivals can also enhance the awareness of people

about beautiful traditional and spiritual values. People would then realize and

appreciate their inner qualities rather than their material status. Finally, it is the

question of education. Children should be taught that their identities are not defined and projected through their clothing, food,

interior design, or automobiles .

They should also be taught about the impact of material on human being’s lives. Individually, people should also

think about balance and values. However, "solving" major issue like

materialism is not easy by society as a whole, but solutions mentioned above can help to prevent materialism from

getting worse.
