These are unprecedented times for all of us, but farming charity R.A.B.I is continuing to support farming people in need. R.A.B.I’s office is closed until further notice but the confidential Freephone Helpline 0808 281 9490 remains open and is being manned by Regional Welfare Officers. RWOs are also phoning those the charity supports to check they're OK and what they need. R.A.B.I is also working with other farming charities under the umbrella of Farming Help to build a directory of local support groups that may be able to help farming families. It’s intended that this could be shared by the Farming Help charities so that people can access assistance where required. A Farming Help awareness campaign will run from April 13-17. Fundraising events have been cancelled / postponed until further notice, but donations can still
be made via Justgiving

Due to the reduced postal service and the shortened opening times of the banks
caused by Covid-19, we would ask all purchasers who have credit arrangements to
pay us via BACS where possible rather than post cheques. Details for payment can

Notice to vendors bringing cattle into Melton Mowbray Market
In order to comply with the Tuberculosis (England) order 2014 we would like to remind vendors when stating the TB testing date of the cattle being sent to market the date of test section should be filled out as the date of injection not
the date of the reading. The 60 day period in which animals can be moved begins on this date.
To assist us with this matter please ensure a TB test certificate accompanies all cattle entering the market, this can be sent directly from your vets to the office via email or a hard copy sent with your entry form.
Named/Numbered Sires
Vendors are advised that named sires must be officially printed on the passport of the animal and not hand written. We will not sell animals as being named or numbered sire if the sire details are not printed onto the passport. Sire details may be checked with the breed societies online to ensure that they are correct. Please
also include sire details on your blue entry forms which accompany cattle to market. Thank you for your cooperation.
Vehicle parking Customers are reminded that the bays on the docks are for the loading and unloading of livestock. Following some comments from customers over recent weeks we have decided to hatch out some bays to assist our customers during busy periods. Anyone found to be parking on these hatched areas and not actively loading/unloading will be issued with a £50 parking charge which will be levied against their account. Please help us to help you in assisting the smooth running of this busy livestock market.
Farm assurance status
Would all cattle vendors selling cattle as Farm Assured please ensure that their Farm Assurance is up to date, with all linked holdings registered to the primary holding, and ensure that the stickers used in
passports match the details held by the administering Farm Assurance body. We are increasingly having issues with linked holdings not being covered under a primary FABBL account, and severe deductions
are being applied at the time of slaughter. In such instances, the vendor is liable for all deductions made

The sheep shed continues to pull in vendors from across the counties with eight new faces unloaded at the docks this week (and adhering to current Covid-19 guidelines) as ever we thank, Vendors, Buyers and Staff for their continued support in these unprecedented times. Numbers slightly shorter than quoted as 350 hoggs from the Shires suffered a breakdown en-route but none the less a trade produced comparable if not better than other outlets in these uncertain times. As ever at Melton all qualities included, weighed and paid for. New season lambs started the day with predominantly indoor lambs forward. Handy weights more sought after topping at 249p/kg for MJ & JA Pinny with P Lucas to the same and RL Law to 247p/kg for 38kg. A top of £99 for P Lucas’ 41kg with £97 seen for MJ & JA Pinny, P Lucas, C Hayward and RW Barker & Son. No lambs forward off grass and a lack of demand in places considering Easter week, the forthcoming weeks could prove interesting.
